    Too Damn Close

Another close one: I was aligning my blue laser, I usually run it just below threshold when aligning, so the output was an incoherent 10uW tops. I bended over to see the alignment and a glass window reflects a the beam straight to me. 10% of 10uW is still almost nothing, a normal light bulb is...

[Not Yet Finished] R+G Yellow Laser

Don't use fog to try to align the beam, that will be very hard to do. The beams need to have the same position and angle, at the laser, or the same position in near and far field (it's the same thing). That means that you have to align the two dots to overlap at a point very close to the laser...

my dye laser project [ pic heavy ]

That's quite a big project you're starting, but definately interesting! What kind of pump laser do you have? You'll probably need a few watts to get above threshold. Does this laser use a dye jet or a cuvette? Be careful with the dyes and their solutions, they can be quite toxic. Probably the...

    Black Labby Heatsink

That's a neat looking heatsink, and the seller has even more interesting stuff. Nice find!

    Are laser mice really... lasers?

What? That makes 0 sense to me.

    Laser lab table board?

I once build one with a 5mm thick plastic plate, it's 50x50cm and was a lot of work to build. I used it quite a lot, it's very handy to have an optical breadboard. I now have a 3cm thick 90x60cm aluminum one, it's way more stable. Those optical tables have a honeycomb structure and are way...

    Vote: Holiday beamshot competition

The voting has ended. I end up in 3rd place, #1 was mine. Not bas as it was a bit of a quick job. Congratulations to the guy of #3, your beamshot is indeed the best!

Will I Be Able To See The Dot On A 200mw 532nm Green With These Eagle Pairs?

The pair you linked to has plenty protection against green and blue lasers, up to 1W/mm^2. Green lasers with a wavelength longer than 532nm are very rare and expensive. The typical DPSS green laser can only vary ~0.1nm in wavelength because of their physical wokring principle, so don't worry...

    Fretwrecker94's Beamshots [VERY PIC HEAVY]

less is more the signal to noise ratio is low quality over quantity What I mean to say is that you have some very nice beamshots, but try putting up half of the images, there are some bad ones inbetween the good ones. Only good images makes it look more awesome in general. Still, nicely done!

Scary IR laser sight for Idiot brother

I'd say stay below 1mW, the mentioned IR lasers are on the border of what is visible but they won't trigger a strong blink reflext. Especially if someone is known not to take laser safety serious I wouldn't give anymore than 1mW. Higher power could be used safely in the right hands.

    Modulation option on diode lasers

You're probably refering to this auction: 445nm Blue 1.5 Watt Diode Laser Lab industrial CW mode MADE IN USA !! | eBay To be honest: the price for the module is a bit high, and $75 for the modulation option is REALLY expensive. The emission indicator and key switch is a $35 option apparently...

    The amazing M-140 445nm diode?

Look harder, I posted statistics on the A140 diodes: http://laserpointerforums.com/f65/some-statistics-projector-diodes-67912.html Not the M140 in question, but interesting none the less.

    The thread about "real" goggles/glasses. . .

Those two are popular here on the forum. I haven't got them myself, I only have certified laser glasses which are usually more expensive.

New here, IR narrow beam laser, how to build it

No divergence isn't possible. You may had the beam waist between the two measuring points which would give the same size at both points, but the beam won't be without divergence. With a good beam quality of a DPSS measuring the divergence can be difficult because of the distance needed.

New here, IR narrow beam laser, how to build it

1000ft is approximately 300 meters. You'd need a very low divergence laser for that. A normal laser module and a good beam expander could do it just fine. A single mode IR diode will probably have a good enough beam quality to have a low divergence. Straight AND narrow by the way isn't possible...

    WTR LPM from UK member

I'm not in the UK but somewhat close. What kind of LPM do you need, something very basic or something fancy?

    Vote: Holiday beamshot competition

Where are the explanations of how people made their picture? It's not always as exciting as before, but still I'm interested. Are there any second prizes to win?

    The thread about "real" goggles/glasses. . .

OD5 would be a high enough OD, that won't be a problem. The question is are your glasses actually OD5 and can they withstand a direct hit? Certified laser safety eyewear guarantees this, cheap chinese stuff can vary a lot in quality and protection. I'd recommend certified laser safety glasses...
