    Class 4 Laser Safety

To give an accurate answer the laser type, power and surfaces involed are important. Was the laser between 400 and 700nm? Yes No: A LOT depends on the material the laser was shining on, if it was a white piece of paper there is most likely no damage at all. Shiny surfaces are definitely very...

    445 nm window break...

Jsut to make you feel better: today one of the technicians at the university here broke a photon counting photomultiplier tube. It was very difficult to insert into it's socket so it required some wiggling. The glass tube was fragile and a crack appeared while putting it into it's socket. Say...

    Question about Yellow lasers

Raman scattering is a very interesting process, it's called scattering because it's not a parametric process. Technically second harmonic generation is also a form of scattering, but it's usually mentioned on it's own. I don't know the details of Raman amplification, I think it's the same as...

    B&W Tek BWB-10-OEM - 473nm 10mW

If removing the sensor doesn't increase the power then the head is probably already at it's maximum. The photodiode is probably reversed biased. The circuit could be from the + voltage the photodiode in series with a resistor to the ground. The voltage across the resistor is proportional to the...

    Laser guided bullet

    Laser guided bullet

Or some undertaker advertisement, that would be sarcastic.

My first gas portable - the "PortaHeNe"

I'd really recommend to get some shielding for the high voltage, it probably won't be lethal but it does really bite, even after it's turned off.

    Laser guided bullet

That and I doubt how effective a bullet like that is, will it have the same effect on the target?

    808, 830, 980 and 1064?

I tried to read that block of tekst, but it doesn't make much sense, apparently you know too little about laser material processing but you do draw conclusions. Small hint: 808nm lasers aren't used for material processing at all unless it's some hobbyist with a pointer burning electrical tape...

    SUPER FREAK "445nm diode"

Nearly all thermal power meters measure the temperature resulting from absorbing the laser light. Pyroelectric power meters measure the change of temperature, so these can only be used pulsed or chopped. The coating will need to be spectrally flat, all wavelength should have equal absorbance...

Tester Needed - Let's Try Out Some Cheap Goggles

Right now I'm rather busy unfortunately, or I'd already be on this. I've got a move coming up, my whole lab will have to be moved and lots of other things need to be done. And the research at the university already takes up most of the day.

Do green lasers really vary that much in wavelength?

532nm lasers definitely can't lase even 1nm away from their wavelength. The 1064nm line from neodymium embedded in a YAG or YVO4 host material are two very closely spaced lines, close enough to overlap considerably by broadening. The complete gain curve is I think 0.3nm wide. Beyond that you...

WTB: Driver for Coherent 488-20 OPSL

You got that $200 ebay auction? If that auction appeared a month ago I'd go for it, but unfortunately I couldn't afford it when it appeared. This may be very useful to you: W's laser heads and precision drivers for laser diode holography

    SUPER FREAK "445nm diode"

Coherent stuff is probably quite accurate, I wouldn't worry about that. The absorbtion may vary a percent or 2, not much more. It probably can be looked up in the datasheet of the power meter.

    Legit safety glasses??

If you're using them with a 10mW green or blue laser it's probably ok, but the goggles are not certified so they may or may not give real safety at higher powers. that gamble is what makes people recommend certified laser safety goggles, and I agree. The ongoing group buy may be indeed interesting.

What's your favorite video game song/soundtrack?

Mirrors edge has a very good theme song: For the rest anything unreal tournament is almost directly good.

Pin hole for clean up a focused laser ?

If you want to clear up a beam profile of a laser diode then after collimation you can focus on the pinhole and collimate the beam after that, which then can be focussed: | laser diode |<|)==(|>|<|)===(|>

    Fibre splicing

You also happen to have a cleaver? I have a bunch of multimode fibers with the ends cut off, they came out of some sort of breadout box where the cable with the 24 fibers inside was cut off. Getting the ends of a few fibers nicely cleaved could make them usefull. Cleavers a quite expensive so I...

    Temporary inactivity due to injuries.

I already found the whole situation weird. I wouldn't give a .... about a forum if I just came out of a coma, I don't think anyone would. I almost though I was being rude thinking that when I read all supportive replies, until the misterious pm's were revealed. Now I'm just curious what's...

Tester Needed - Let's Try Out Some Cheap Goggles

I already have plenty 445nm diodes and stuff, I only need some time to build that laser, the rest of the setup is easy.
