    eBay gambles: how I got a 25mW 488nm DPSS for $75...

I saw that one on ebay, if I wasn't in the middle of a move I would have placed a bid on it. But considering argons give the same wavelength and these usually go expensive I didn't bother. So, congratulations to you! Maybe someday later I'll catch a 488nm solid state.

    Coherent Innova 90 Ion laser

I have a Lexel 85, it can run on a single phase but I don't have the manual yet to wire it for 230V. A long time ago I heard someone at the university say that the spectra physics I have (stabilite 2017) also can run of single phase, but I'm not sure if he is right. I mixed up some numbers...

    Fake Eagle Pairs?

I'd say this is one more reason to stick to trustworthy stuff from trustworthy sellers.

    Coherent Innova 90 Ion laser

My Lexel also have a 3 phase 208V plug but can be wired to a single 230V phase. My Spectra Physics supposedly use the same trick but I haven't verified that. But this Coherent one has a 45A current requirement and can give out 50A of tube current, with a linear power supply that would indeed...

    Coherent Innova 90 Ion laser

In that case with a transformer (which you already have) you can go up to something like 30A, that should definitely work.

    Coherent Innova 90 Ion laser

It's probably only using the voltage between two phases (208V), so a single phase 230V may power it up to 16A, that may be enough to reach threshold. That how I hope to get my argons running. Edit: nope I was wrong here.

My first gas portable - the "PortaHeNe"

Multimode? That's probably not multiple transversal modes but longitudinal modes, as far as I know only large HeNe's are multiple transverse mode but I could be wrong.

    Anyone seen PontiacG5?

Has anyone recently had contact with PontiacG5? I bought some stuff from him and it hasn't arrived yet after roughly 2 months, and I didn't got a reply back from him. My guess would be that he's quite busy, him last activity was 30th of january, when he send a pm that my stuff was shipped. I'm...

    Melles Griot HeNe gas laser

Even at the right time for me my budget would still be an order of magnitude off.

    Melles Griot HeNe gas laser

That's a very nice HeNe! Even though it would be my ~18th red HeNe I'm interested!

Hit in eye with 1000mw 445nm blue laser

WRONG! You're suggesting taking chances because the chance of being hit in the eye is low anyway. Pointers are inherently unstable. Everything near the beam should be either not specular reflecting or impossible to fall over. There are so many things that can go wrong, goggles are needed when...

Tester Needed - Let's Try Out Some Cheap Goggles

I have a monochromator to check the wavelength of my laser(s). I took my spectrophotometer apart but even if I can't put it back together I'll ask if I can do it at the university, although that one had some problems, it only can measure up to slightly below OD 4 because of stray light. Double...

Take a guess at my lasers' powers!

Guessing the power of a laser by photo's can be decieving. Here: http://laserpointerforums.com/f48/has-somebody-pics-80mw-532nm-66074.html#post950741 People guessed roughly between 10 and 150mW, the actual power was 0.6mW

my dye laser project [ pic heavy ]

How did you align the green laser? It should overlap with the cavity mode which requires a good and stable alignment.

    Question about Yellow lasers

It isn't called Sum Frequency Generation for nothing, the frequency is directly proportional to the photon energy. The wavelength is determined by the frequency and propagation speed, although usually c is taken for that.

    Question about Yellow lasers

I looked it up and indeed both yellows are SFG, I must've mixed up the involved process with that of other wavelengths, I didn't check it when I posted, my bad. It's late here.

    445 nm window break...

The university doesn't have enough money with all the budget cuts. It's not his personal stuff, that's true, but still it doesn't feel great to break a few thousand euro device. But I blew/broke diodes myself too, nothing new.

    Class 4 Laser Safety

Good to hear you are ok! Class 4 is 500mW (for CW lasers) and beyond, that's the highest class. My advice: wear appropriate laser safety eyewear, that should protect you in case of a direct hit. Be REALLY careful when working with such a powerful laser, even a direct reflection of a photodiode...
