It may be possible to build a laser into the ecig mod, but not a 2W violet (that's 405nm).

That's about the way I see ~650nm as well. At times, seeing the beam of 650nm seems harder than 405nm. I prefer 638nm over 650nm just because it's much more visible.

I second Shakenawake. I have a build with one of those Oclaro 120mW diodes. At right about the same power (~220mW), the 638nm is much more visible to me, while still having an nice beam.

I don't have one either, but from what I've seen posted around, they have worse beam specs than the "common" 445. IIRC, they are close to the horrible Oclaro 700mW 635s.

I've got two lasers I built with that diode, and just kept the acrylic on it. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think a 3-element lens will improve beam/dot quality. With the acrylic, it's a very nice beam. Check out my build thead in my signature, I've got a video using it to do optical trapping...

I tried taking pure VG and PG, added a little food coloring (since their clear), and hit it with ~2W 445. Not even a puff of vapor. Unless you used a dark ecig juice, getting the juice to absorb enough of the laser would be problematic. Yes, I too thought about this....

The thermal epoxy should have came with two tubes that you mix together. In your pic, the orange and white is thermal compound, which doesn't harden. Every epoxy I've used had two tubes, resin and hardener, that you have to mix together and apply before it hardens. @nwfreefly, with my kryton...

The X-Drive doesn't boost voltage, so you still need to have diodes Vf+.

You can use many common hosts, just have one of the machinists make a custom heatsink to fit a 20mm module. As for the batteries, 1 li-ion cell will work, very likely much better than standard alkaline. Edit: heh, I was beaten to it...

The power likely is over 2W. The two I ran at 1.8A peaked at ~2.6W.

Learn about each type of driver, and look up diode datasheet (or see what is said on DTRs site/diode threads). Many of the diodes you can get from DTR have threads on here with alot of info. Also, never use a boost driver with red or IR diodes. They will fry the diode. I also would recommend...

I got this pair from JetLasers with my PL-E pro that work good over my glasses. Their not the most comfortable, but they work with glasses.
