    faulty 9mm diode?

Looks like the die reflection. Pretty normal with high powered diodes.

Let there be fog! (warning, insanely bright beam pics)

Very nice pics! I bet the 532nm was crazy bright.

    On and off Power outputs.

You can test the tail cap by putting the batteries in, leave the tail cap off, and use a wire or peice of aluminum foil to connect the batteries to the host. If it still does it, it's not the tail cap. Other than that, check your batteries. This is where I would start.

Payments Stage | GB | New CNC Machined Custom Designed Host for $18

Great news! I'm also curious about the tweaks..

    making fog juice?

The can be a mild irritant. Especially the drying of the throat. That was very noticeable when I switched to ecigs, the vapor will dry out your throat and mucous membranes.

    Red Diodes, power and efficiency

1.) Not quite. Red and IR diodes have low voltage drops, anywhere between ~2.2 - 3.5V, IIRC. Have you measured the voltage across the diode? 2.) Not sure about actual efficiency, or this particular diode, but you're defiantly not getting anything like 720mA. DVD burner diode, from what I've...

    Coin Collectors Thread

I used to collect them years ago. Still have them. I've got $2.50, $5, and $10 gold peices, a few Morgan silver dollars, the list goes on. I had a thing for odd denominations like half cents, 2 cent peices, 3 cent peices, ect. I especially liked the 3 cent silvers. I'll see if I can dig out my...

Mini x3 beam expander for 7A75&7475 Handheld(Updated Videos for X5 beam expander)

Re: Custom Mini x3 beam expander for 7A75 & 7475 Handheld Wow, that looks really nice! And you made it look so easy. +rep. (Waits for CDBeam to swing by...)

    Operating temperature?

I don't think you need to worry about damage. Assuming your laser is not 532nm and thus diode based, the cold would help with the heat it creates. You may get longer run times. The batteries may not like the cold, but the laser itself should be fine. Plenty of people have thrown their lasers in...

trying to learn more about battery choices

Yup, drivers have a min/max input voltage on their data sheets. No, never use more than one battery with a boost drive. That's a good way to fry it. They generally can't take much more than 6V. They "boost" the input voltage up to power diodes with higher voltage drops. This eliminates the need...

trying to learn more about battery choices

The mAh is cell capacity, how much energy it can output before needing recharging. In general, the higher the number, the longer it can go. The only thing this affects is run time. The number of batteries depends mostly on driver. If not a boost driver, it almost always will need 2+ batteries...

    Merry Christmas guys!

Don't be the noob that posts quantity over quality.

I can see that. I was just putting it out there for anybody peeping the thread. I've seen quite a few newbies use the "LPF search" and get nowhere, so they make a thread. So I mearly pointed out that the bottom google search bar is MUCH better.

anyone have info on this LPM?

I recommend the Radient x4, I haven't seen one as cheap that is this good. If I ever get the time, I plan to attempt to make an android graphing app for it.

Don't be the noob that posts quantity over quality.

I just want to clarify in regards to search... At the top of the page is the LPF search. Don't use this. At the bottom of the page is a google search bar. Use this, it's way better than the top of the page search. Actually, it's basically the same as using google like mwfreefly suggested, but...

    First build! Nintendo Power!

Very nice build! Definitely one of the top unorthodox-host-builds I've seen. +rep on the awesome laser gaming goodness!

Achieving consistent power from cheap 5mW green

I would say go with the 10440 and spacer. The driver will produce a little more heat, but it shouldn't be enough to hurt it, if you stick to a decent run time. As for your second option, that is pot modding, as the only adjustable part of the driver is the pot. Although the driver may not have...
