I've been to one of the installations in Hawaii. I saw it in action back in 1992. It was a small compound on the northern island of Kauai. They wouldn't let us inside however the intense green beam was clearly visible shooting into the sky. Especially with the low light conditions there.

I'm not sure about any age. The OP did say high powered lasers. Under 10 years old it starts to get freaky for me. I'm sure there are exceptions but fewer rather than greater.

Agreed, Optotronics. I have two of their 150mW's. They may look like cheap eBay pointers but don't be fooled. The hosts are heavier & have better machine work on the grooves. The beams are extremely tight & the brightness is ridiculous.
