test load without a 1 ohm resistor?

Thanks for all the help guys. It's more useful than you probably realise. I've just started out in electronics, and all the books I read seem to assume I know a lot already; wrong books for me obviously. Anyway, I just learned first-hand about the multimeter and fuses as I just popped my...

The Micro Driver Module (MDM) concept (picture)

I'm glad someone mentioned this issue of fins on heat-sinks. I've seen this error before, where a heat-sink is finned and then housed inside an external case! That not only defeats the object of the fins, but compared to a non-finned HS with complete surface contact to the host, it's actually...

Flaminpyro vs Jayrob SH-032 SS Build (image heavy)

Re: Flaminpyro SS >1W 445nm Build (image heavy) I wouldn't worry, I don't think Plexus's comments reflect badly on anyone concerned at all. I think whenever transactions take place, in any context, there's always the risk of expectations on both sides not aligning exactly, and that's what I...

    Wicked refusing to refund

I honestly think that maybe WL haven't seen your emails, or at least the right person hasn't. This is because others have posted about successful refunds, even after receiving their Arctics, but only when they actually had their request read. Have you tried their Livechat service? I've used...

    water resistant arctic?

I wouldn't have thought machining a simple groove the same radius as your chosen o-rings, at the aperture cap end and battery cap end would be more than a 5 min job. Then, you could simply epoxy the safety pin in place, making that water tight. as well as the 2 contact pins on the other side...

    LASORB usage (with 445nm)

Makes sense, as when I watched the promo video the main focus was on ESD protection, not spikes. To me it came across as though the spike protection is a given, and they were drawing more attention to ESD. Presumably because there are alternative methods of spike protection, as already...

    ir filter

Also, if you have any old webcams, or digicams lying around, you can disassemble them, get to the bit between the CCD and the lens, and you should find a small square piece of glass with a coating on it (sort of reddish/blue/green), and that's the IR filter. If you remove it, you can place it...

    Laser bad press heats up

Well, this was all over the BBC news today. BBC - Newsbeat - Lasers pose 'threat to flight safety' Apparently the reclassification to "offensive weapon" status may already be under way. Time for UK hobbyists to stock up? Shame about all this, for everyone. The world is getting smaller day by...

test load without a 1 ohm resistor?

I'd considered 10 x 10 ohm in parallel, my beginners guide to electronics taught me that at least ;) , but I don't have ten of those either. Thanks for pointing out the reason for the resistor. I'll read up more on that while I wait for the ones I order to arrive.

test load without a 1 ohm resistor?

Hi guys. After searching all morning, I couldn't figure this out. Can I get away with making an effective test-load for red (4x1N4001's) and blue (6x1N4001's) diodes, without using a 1 ohm resistor? Is there anything else I could use instead, to serve the same purpose? This is my first ever...

Arctic beamshots with new digital camera

Nope, just anti-WL-fanboys shout a lot. ;) Oh, nice shots btw.

    No more Spartan 1W 445??!!!

Just been browsing Dragon Lasers and noticed that they've removed the Spartan 1W 445 and only the 400mW round beamer's available. I hope this is a temporary situation due to too much demand coupled with the need for them to shift some of the 400mW roundies, and not a permanent thing.

    Attention all Americans

The country of ENGLAND is the custodian of the language ENGLISH... The clue's in the name. More specifically, English as defined by the Oxford English Dictionary is the only definitive and correct version of the language on the planet, end of. Furthermore, the OED covers words from across the...

    NOVA lasers x-25

Thanks for the review. I ordered exactly the same unit and it arrived today while I was out. It's a shame that UPS in your region seem far less able to charge import duty/taxes and surcharges as UPS in the UK; I was charged and additional $27 on top of the $30 shipping!! Anyway, if...

Does Anyone Know if Dino Direct is any good?

I've just ordered a couple of violet lasers, and so far the experience has been really smooth; faultless to be honest. All the usual confirmations by email at each step, and an efficient payment process. Oh, this was all after a prompt reply to a couple of pre-purchase questions I emailed them...

My First impression of O-Like Bluray

Hi. Thanks for the review, but do you have any pictures? I'm shopping around for a 405nm laser at the moment actually, and came across O-Like too. Is this the laser you're on about? (see attachment)

Making a list of fake or scam laser websites contribute?

All things considered, I agree. 1. You can't rely on everyone to leave responsible and factual feedback, and you don't have to look far in here to find plenty of highly charged rants without a reliable fact in them, yet they still generate the same negative perception to most who read. This is...

    Arctic Vs Spartan.

I managed to find the review of the Spartan 400mW that mentioned the lack of corrective optics. "EDIT August 22, 2010: I can confirm that the Spartan does *NOT* use corrective optics. I managed to get the driver out, although I killed the laser in the process. Shouldn't be permanent, but we'll...

    Arctic Vs Spartan.

Yes, I assumed exactly the same thing, but I think I read somewhere that the 400mW doesn't use corrective optics, so just guessed it was direct from the diode?

    Arctic Vs Spartan.

Great demo of your Arctic. I'm just glad to see some factual opinions and reviews of the Arctic. I also ordered a couple of those Tenergy 2600's and can't wait to try them out. The oem's from WL last about 25-30 mins on mine, max, and aren't that consistent tbh. I bought a Spartan 1W for a...
