    Eye Candy

I'm not really familiar with laser shows in general, but it just seems like there would be miles of red tape to crawl through to be able to do something like that.

Thanks guys . I'll be sure to PM c0ld when I reach 1000. And to keep the thread on track, it appears that the show was done by "LPS Lasersysteme". They have some videos on YouTube, and they're all pretty spectacular.

Were they scanning the audience? Either way cool find.

    Often used abbrevations and acronyms

Queries using the forum's native search feature require keywords to be at least 4 letters long. Don't ask me why, I don't know. I would recommend against using the built in search, and instead attach "site:laserpointerforums.com" to a Google search. This will restrict results to the forum.

    What happend?

Of course, I use my lasers as tools all the time when doing experiments, but you and I are exceptions, not the rule. There's a reason we're still here and the hundreds of members with <50 posts aren't.

    What happend?

I haven't been here nearly as long as most of the people in this thread, so take the following with a grain of salt. Pretty much everyone has noticed a decline in activity. Lasers pointers are a thing of yesteryear. The few of us here are just the last holdouts of a hobby that died in...

    Military laser weapons

Well yeah, I get how they work, but I still fail to see how that is preferable to vaporizing a part (or all) of your target. Keep in mind direct CW radiation is quite easy to deal with, e.g. by spinning.

    Military laser weapons

What is the advantage of CW laser weapons when compared pulsed lasers? It seems like you could do a lot more damage in a (much) smaller amount of time with some of the insane pulse energies that have been achieved (think NIF). Even better!

    Random thoughts

There have been several recent advances in laser technology, but you probably won't see them yourself any time soon. Lasers are not really a "consumer product" on their own, at best they get integrated into something else you buy. The laser hobby itself is quite a niche; lasers as a hobby are...

You're gonna go blind if you keep doing that. ;-)

I took a look at the study, and I'm confused as to whether they're illuminating a certain cell density, or single cells. They say the max power they used was 9.7µW, and HeLa cells have a diameter of ~20µm (according to google), and therefore an area of about 100πµm^2, giving a max intensity of...

    Space Discussion Thread

I'm not a chemist, so take this with a grain of salt, but AFAIK the definition of "organic" is somewhat arbitrary and varies depending on context. For example, liquid PFCs are usually classified as "organic" even though they don't contain any hydrogen. Even stuff like Teflon is sometimes...

Laser Lab and Hotel with Optics Manufacturing, and way more

As absolutely amazing as something like this would be, this is a total pipe dream. 250 MILLION? I understand that something like this is going to cost a lot, but you're not going to raise $250M from crowdfunding. Not counting cryptocurrencies and the blockchain fad, Starcitizen is the largest...

    Having problems? Use Xtend-it

Cyp is right, it's just fancy compressed air. I honestly wouldn't trust a layer of gas to protect stuff that's sensitive to the environment anyway, I always store my delicate and reactive components/substances with a desiccant and an oxygen scavenger.

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please Sorry to kind of re-derail the thread here, but I must say that this is an absolutely wonderful book for anyone interested in building solid state lasers. I've never read it cover to cover, but I've used it on...

PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please sub

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please It certainly seems a little pale, but why would the manufacturers go to all of the trouble of not only doping just the center of the rod, but also finishing a rough gem boule? Also keep in mind that Cr³⁺...

I mined a little bit of BTC back when if first came out. It's still not worth very much, but I'll hodl and see what happens. ;)

    Cooling with Lasers....

I remember reading about this back when the article was published, really interesting stuff. I'm assuming they are exploiting some kind of anti-Stokes fluorescence?
