How to annoy video game purists: Me playing Duke on my Macbook: Although there are technically "better" ways to do it, like source ports, sometimes it's nice to return to the grass roots and there's nothing quite like playing DOS games on top of real DOS. It's (almost) as good as real DOS on...

"Trigger's Broom" - a famous scene from a fantastic British comedy called "Only Fools and Horses". I don't know if this one is known in the States, although I gather you guys don't look favourably upon laugh tracks.

That makes sense then. 130 (kmh) is not uncommon here, in the slow lane...

Need help buying my first laser!

Eagle pair are good. I ended up spending a lot on a pair of certified OD7 glasses when I probably didn't need to. Don't even think regular civvies can get hold of lasers which require more than OD 3 or 4 to be eye safe anyway.

Need help buying my first laser!

It depends how sensible you are, and how sensible you are in the first place depends whether you can effectively self evaluate. I started out with a 100mW green laser in a considerably fatter and heavier host than the usual pen laser you get, after months of research - the market is saturated...

People would do this?! Falling slipping and hitting the back of my head is one of my top fears tbh.

    Happy Birthday Mr Alaskan.

it's very kind of you to mention me in that group, although when it comes to knowledge I have little in the way of lasers - most of what I know is re-read from here and that's only the basics as I don't have the attention span for more. I have often wondered whether I'm ADHD because I strive to...

    Happy Birthday Mr Alaskan.

I'd like to think that wears off pretty early on though. I was a fairly late bloomer and I pretty much grew out of that a few years ago now. (I am 26, although probably not as mature as some here, I have largely been mellowed by some life experiences recently and other factors)

That's intriguing, especially as the lamp post isn't on. Solar eclipse??? OK, sticking with the thread subject, heres two I did a while ago on film. We took the car to a dark sky area and I combined the subject of lasers with car. It looks cool from the back:

Sod that. There was a winter a few years back where the entire UK was enveloped in ice cold temps for around a month. The jet stream had shifted and we experienced what the continent does every winter - temps down to minus double figures at night and still well below minus during the day...

To get up to high speeds the three banger does require winding up a fair bit, but unless everyone in Germany drives like an absolute lunatic I'm not sure why you had to redline it. The power comes and goes by that point anyway. I've had no problem merging into motorway traffic with my VW's three...

Aye, and over there low octane really does mean that! Over here the watered down stuff is usually 95 no lower, with the well brewed stuff being 98 or 99! That does seem expensive, does the US not have it rather cheap though? I was always under the impression that you could tank a car in 'merica...
