    Light saber...proof of concept

I will post my first drawing of an idea similar tp yours. I started this as a high power laser level to use outside on a pond build I am involved in, so it started with one cube then the idea developed. Regards rog8811

Mythbusters is popping corn with a laser.

I am a MB sceptic, I have started threads on the Discovery forum a couple of times over the inapropriate methods used. A couple of things they have busted in the past have been confirmed on british TV programes. Did you see the moon landing episode when jamie shone a green laser on Adams...

    3 motor spirograph

The video looks good Albert, lots of paterns, some with 3D effect that you only get with 3 motors. I cannot see the pictures anywhere? Regards rog8811

Insects, Birds & Heat Waves (Photography)

Nice pictures Lambo, Your dragonfly is actually a male, common blue, damselfly. The way to tell the difference is, when they land, a dragonfly leaves its wings outstretched, a damselfly folds them back. (it's my job to know this :) ) Regards rog8811

    Quick Question

You will need to "tin" (cover in solder) the remaining piece of metal using a soldering iron before you try and attach a wire...It can be done but you will almost certainly melt the insulator somewhat. If you switch polarity you reverse the motor so no problem. Regards rog8811

it is possible? focuseable white laser

Each wavelength will focus to a different point so when one colour is a fine point the other 2 would be big blobs, you could try making it as per design then try another lens on the front, but I think the same thing will happen. I usually have a jewelers loupe near my computer....and laser...

    Scammed by jake21!!!!

If any of you have a paypal transaction that is still within the 45 day cutoff for disputes, could I suggest you hold fire to see if Jake is keeping his word? If someone starts a dispute now his account will be frozen until it is settled....which means he cannot pay anyone else back. Having...

    Light saber...proof of concept

I had not really thought it through fully, I know you need 2 supplies, 3v for the green, 7.2v for the red and the BR...You can common the neg I suppose:undecided: which would keep it to 4 slip rings but I don't think I will be doing it anytime soon:) Regards rog8811

    Scammed by jake21!!!!

I know you have had a bad experience with jake but he has stated that he is sorting it out, how about cutting him a little slack to see if he comes through. Suggestion to people who are owed.... PM Jake, keep it friendly and business-like, Make sure you give him enough detail to be able to...

    Light saber...proof of concept

As long as the rotor is turning fast enough it would be possble.....except that the power to the lasers is done with brushes on slip rings, I used two to power the greens, you would need five slip rings and brushes to run three different colours. Photo of slip rings and brushes.... Regards...

Quick questions about the lm317 driver. Yes, I do need your help again :D

Try swapping the leads from one meter to the other, you may find that, if they are old, thery are effecting the readings. Regards rog8811

    Light saber...proof of concept

Don't think I didn't consider it.... In fact I am wondering whether to go for red lasers because the greenies, as usual, do not emit the beam straight which is why there is a bit of spill from the column of light in the still photo I have added to the first post. Also I could set the beam to be...

    Light saber...proof of concept

@ FML, I love your new avatar! Here is the concept drawing I did of the major parts, the yellow ribbon is the tape measure, it comes up through the rotor mount on the left hand drawing, loops over the top of the blade stop to the right of the drawing and is then terminated in the top of the...

    soldering kit worth it?

I cannot see much wrong with the kit, it has most of the important stuff. You may want to add a solder sucker or some desoldering braid. Regards rog8811

    Light saber...proof of concept

The blade drive video post #13 shows it going up and down, it is a powered tape measure folded back on itself.;) Regards rog8811

    Light saber...proof of concept

I am not sure what you are saying TJ, what you see there is the whole mechanical bit, the blade goes up and retracts fully. General assembly of the finished build....ish;) Regards rog8811

    Light saber...proof of concept

DP....Here it is in the cold light of day, as I say this is proof of concept, there is a lot to do to make this look like, what will end up being, a steampunk saber. Regards rog8811
