    Kipkay copied Rog!

Thanks for the comments guys:yh:, I have to say KK has made a nice neat job of his one and it is yet another host for people to try. I think the safety aspect is worth thinking about if anyone is going to try it though, at least with my one I know exactly where the beam is before turning it on...

    DDL driver kills 635nm diodes?

There is nothing inherantly wrong with the LM317 circuit that would cause it to kill any LD, if it is set up correctly. It is much more likely you damaged it removing it from one driver (did you short the cap before removing it?) or attaching it to the new one. Regards rog8811

Connecting a ground wire to an aluminum case

Most flashlight manufacturers wedge the neg wire down the side of the PCB, it works but is not ideal. If I have somewhere that I can put a washer I make one out of brass wire, drill a hole through the ali case and solder the wire to the washer which is clamped tight by when you assemble the...

HELP ! Potentiometer Needed for Keyboard

It is not uncommon to have to saw the end off the shaft and file a flat on it until it fits the thumb wheel, so a hacksaw and a small flat file will do the trick in about 10 minutes. Regards rog8811

Looking for the right material to make springs.

I second piano wire and auto part springs. BUT If you get ready made springs you will usually find they are plated or galvanized, you need to take a file to them to get down to bare metal or the solder will not take. I purchased a box of various springs for about £3 from ebay I have been able...

    funny laser modding FAIL!

I only had to watch the first few seconds to know that the video had done the rounds before (worth posting again though) we all agreed first time around that the iron was not on and the whole thing was bogus..... That many views of the video easily explain why we still get the "how...

HELP ! Potentiometer Needed for Keyboard

My guess is that laserbee is correct on the value but you can still do some checking. Unsolder the wires from the pot (to be sure you are not measuring over a parallel resistor), measure across the 2 outside tabs, if you get nothing however you set your meter take the pot apart (it doesn't...

EliteLasers.com - Your Source for Red, Green and Blue Laser Pointer

That brings up a point that you should bare in mind.... When a member here asks what the output power of a high powered green laser is, you must quote the "visable green" light power not the combined "IR/green" output. In other words 180mw of IR and 220mw of green does not a 400mw green laser...

First time building laser, PLEASE HELP =]

ALSO i think on my previous failures, i failed to find out the current of my driver what i did was power up my laser and connecting the two ends of the driver to an ammeter and checking the current It can be done that way as long as you have load equivelent to the LD in series with the meter...

What is this kind of laser?

If you are puting a pot on it just wind it up until you get the brightness you need for your purpose and stop there, it is not going to be that dangerous unless stared into at close range. Regards rog8811

EliteLasers.com - Your Source for Red, Green and Blue Laser Pointer

Hi Elitelasers, If you get it right this forum can be very lucrative, answer all questions and comments without taking offence at the manor in which they are asked and you are part way there. I do not doubt that you will have recieved some PM's asking for a sample laser to test, it may be worth...

    This is diffrent.

It took a few years for it to become funny. I had spent 2 years on an experimental 4 cylinder "swashplate" stirling engine and just about perfected it...then it was gone:cryyy: The only engine from that era I still have is a spirit fired traction engine which happened to be in the shed...

    This is diffrent.

I used to make those at one time, I lost them all in a house fire..... I had visions of them all running as the house disintigrated around them. Regards rog8811

What is this kind of laser?

There is usually a surface mount limiting resistor (small black plastic block soldered at both ends) on the pcb, behind the LD chip, if you solder a higher resistance one to the board you can limit the output. Regards rog8811

    DIY Homemade laser diode driver

Sunny said The capacitor needs to be 10microfarrad 16v The pot should be 100ohms max The resistor you need to work out for yourself. It will set the maximum current available to the LD, use search to find the max current then go to the driver page on my website (link below) use the simple sum...

    DIY Homemade laser diode driver

Could you tell me what the difference is between 1.5amps straight from a battery compared to 1.5amps through the driver? (I chose 1.5amps as the driver is capable of delivering that much). Regards rog8811

    sort of embarrassing question.

You are 16, I would guess you have a week end job, so you can buy it yourself. I am not suggesting doing it behind your dads back, show him that you want it enough to pay for it yourself. What is the danger of a soldering iron? You can burn yourself badly! BUT you will only do it once:). Is...
