Check the chatroom out EP! It'd be great if you could pop in for a bit.

    Side Button or Rear Clicky

I definitely prefer a momentary side button since I really don't run into situations where I need to leave a portable laser or pointer on continously. I think it's easier to press the button on the side than the rear when you're holding it too. Definitely would have to agree the rear is a good...

A Huge Thank You to ArcticDude.

Wow. That's an awesome host! Tero must be super skillful. That's a very nice looking MCU setup as well.

FS: Custom Laser Labels Available Again!

Re: FS: Custom Laser Warning Labels UPDATE It should be $1.50 + $1.75 to mail, but I make them in batches, so prices can go down depending upon demand. I'm also waiting on some new ink, so it'll be a bit. I'll let you know when I hear back from some other members.

Yeah. I'm pretty far off on the West Slope. Spend most of my time in New Mexico though. You might want to check with some of the less active Colorado members. I believe Ultimatekaiser, Trevor, and Shakenawake are all in your area.

I've got a couple I could sell, but I'm not really sure where you're located.

FS: Custom Laser Labels Available Again!

Re: FS: Custom Laser Warning Labels UPDATE Okay. I'll add you to the list Ben. I'll have to see who else is ready to get in the batch though since I still don't have enough for a sheet.

    FS: Tunable Argon Laser Head

Haha yep. I used an ILT head for an optics lab. I'll have to see if I can find another supply, but I think that's the cable. Auctioneer was not sympathetic at all. I got a very partial refund after months by complaining every week, but they said they still charged for their own various fees and...

    First day of Fall!

Figured I'd throw in another nice fall photo I recently caught.

    FS: Tunable Argon Laser Head

Thanks for all that info vk2fro. Still have it in storage since there haven't been any bites. Thinking about getting a supply, but I'm not really sure how I'd wire it up without the remote or cables.

    Levitating tiny diamonds with lasers!

I get that man. I've already been in college a bit longer than I should have been, but I was set to graduate this year if I hadn't taken this semester off. Was going to have to make my grad school plans, but now they'll be pushed back a year. I like the idea of learning more and getting more...

Review of the new 15W LPM from LPS....

Thanks for reviewing this lasersbee. I had better but still not good expectations of it for the price, but it's even worse. I guess it wouldn't be bad if it was less than $40 or a cheap little kit for hobbyists, but Hyperion is definitely a much better budget choice at this price range.

    Levitating tiny diamonds with lasers!

Awesome video Styro! I knew you were in some sort of storage unit. :) Is the storage unit back near home in IL or near school? Really liked seeing some math that I could understand. Wouldn't have known to treat the particle as a dipole though. Still lacking a lot of optics and materials...

    PGS heat sinking question..

Yep. The difficulty with typical "high density" graphite stock is that it's been pressed together from multiple pieces in a chemical process, so the sheets aren't uniformly arranged enough to have an extra conductive axis. This is the material I pulled specs on and Lifetime17 is using. Hence a...

    PGS heat sinking question..

    (ROOM TEMP) Graphite: K= 168 W/(mK) Cp= 717 J/(kgC) ε≈0.98 ρ=2.3 - 2.7 10^3 kg/m^3 That's at least what I could look up in my engineering reference. Here's copper for comparison: K=401 Cp=385 ε≈0.78 (best case rough oxide, negligible raw) ρ=8.79 Aluminum: K=205 Cp=897 ε≈0.77 (best case black...

    PGS heat sinking question..

Yeah Rich. That should work pretty well, but I think that exposing the graphite will probably be a better bet thermally than using it as a sink or contact material between the module and something else. Maybe not as good visually or for durability though. I'll do some math if I get...

    Spider (large pic warning)

Thanks Curtis. I'd never seen any color variant of these besides black and white, so orange was neat. For those wondering about the wandering spider, not only are they deadly, but: Bonus:

    PGS heat sinking question..

While the graphite bar stock might not be as good for thermal conducticity at contacts, its going to be much more EMISSIVE, so the radiative heat transfer is going to be much better than other materials. Convection off of a graphite surface should also be better due to actual surface properties...
