Seems like it would be a great idea to have an "intro / basic questions" thread where new users could post questions without scorn, and where we could sticky some of the basic level questions (and hopefully not a bunch of other stuff).

Those will be constant voltage boost drivers, not constant current, so as a starting point, you'd need a new PCB. While it's possible that you could move some of the parts to a new PCB, the IC likely has a high feedback voltage that wouldn't lend itself to constant current configurations without...

Nope, not necessarily. In fact, not even likely. Even within the same wavelength, different models have dramatically different curves. Here, you've replied to a thread about a wavelength and diode that is exceedingly rare, and very experimental. It's specs are irrelevant to your challenge...

That's good news. I look forward to your thoughts on how to achieve current regulation without the linear driver tagged on the end. That's what I struggled with.

I wonder if this works? Everything about it looks wrong, but I think it might work given that the the final output portion is linear regulation... why not regulate on the (-) rail of the LD output.

Does anyone know how the AMC7135 internally works such that the voltage drop can get so low? Can we replicate that? I thought about using a MOSFET current regulator schematic but swap the transistor for a germanium transistor so that it wouldn't drop 0.7V. But it turns out germanium transistors...

Oh I see what you're saying. I don't want to go the route of counting on anodizing to insulate. I can always isolate intentionally if I want. I don't want to go that route. I want case neutral by physical design.

I've had C6 hosts in the past. Wouldn't be large enough. Also, are you sure the case is neutral? I thought the host body was still used for tailcap feed.
