Ok then. Here it is. Might be time for a new diode soon. IIRC the current is set at 4.5A, and after it stabilizes it's "only" doing about 5.3W, looks like on DTR's pics it should be doing about 6.5W at that current. I tried that g8 you sent me rich, on all the lasers which currently have g7...

Resolved, thanks Rich. You da man.

I like that idea better. I'm open to many solutions I suppose. Even a set screw if it comes to that. Mainly I just want to preserve the huge ass heat sink because that thing was fairly expensive.

Well I'm not keen on the idea of attachment via set screws, Rich already offered that solution.

Yes the copper is just a band around the aluminum. It slides right off and is purely cosmetic

Well I didnt make it. The handle seems to be solid metal so it must be a retaining ring. The half cylinder of aluminum the driver is mounted on seems to be thermal pasted in. So I assume it went in after the retainer for the spring board

    help with a host

Ok here it is. As you can see, it's just a huge copper heat sink that the host screws into. The heatsink just houses the module, and has a set screw for it. The handle houses the driver

I will look into it if I ever need such a service. Really, uploading pics here was the only thing i ever used it for so if lpf allows direct upload now, i dont really need a picture hosting site. Thanks though

Apart from the slight language barrier, it's been a pleasure. Thanks

Not quite, the handle on mine screws into the heatsink rather than the other way around. Will post picks when I can

    help with a host

It's been a while since I have uploaded pics. I used to use photobucket but now that's a paid service. What's the easiest way that's also free to do that? Oh, looks like we can just directly upload them. I will do so when I get a chance. Working out of town right now and the laser is at home

    help with a host

No because the driver and battery contact are in the handle part. A new handle would need a spot for the driver
  14. Shakenawake

    help with a host

Yes but the heatsink is made in a way that the handle screws into it, it doesnt rest inside the host

We tried that already. Well, the repair. We didnt discuss making a whole new handle

I actually still need help with this host if anyone can. Or if anyone is machining hosts, maybe I could send them the heat sink and they could make a new handle for it and mount the driver

Yes yoonie, as GSS said, the trade off for having a small host is short duty cycles and frequently recharged batteries. There was a thread on here a long while back where someone made a 3W laser into a host the size of a zippo lighter, using a button cell battery. The Lasers power is determined...

Thanks Rich, I kinda figured that was the case. I'm not opposed to the practice, was just curious. Thanhtung, is it possible to turn the current on the driver down to 1.8A?

Some diodes have a lens on the diode itself that is less desirable than other lenses we use. These are often "de-canned", which removes the diodes window or lens, but exposes the diode's internals. Care must be taken with these de-canned diodes so that dust or other debris doesnt get on the...

Thanks for the super prompt response. 1 last question. Is the diode a de-canned diode? Pretty tempting
