I am considering asking ehgemus to build a: stainless shell + copper sink but I don't know if it can be done and if so, price may be high. I wanted the copper sink to be able to take the usual 12x30mm module but also have a screw-in driver module like a C6 in case I want a separate driver...
I am also interested in such a host with a main on/off at the tailcap and a momentary side switch up front. And possibly a deadman switch up front or at the tailcap too. Let us know how your custom host turns out if you get one made.
ebay also has small round locks which could work in the...
I was toying with the idea of having a custom host made with a deadman switch at the tail for safety.
While in most production lasers with a deadman switch at the tailcap (or "remote switch connector" according to laserbtb's term used on their site), it is basically a headphone male plug...
Thank you for the post - this will help for sure! I might just do that instead of purchasing the 12x30mm premade module.
What size board is it in the pic?
haven't decided the details yet but I was headed toward a 12x30mm module rather than pressing a diode into a heatsink, just for simplicity and replaceability. Also wanted the c6 type host to be flexible enough to accomodate either a 1+Watt 445 (driver heatsink would be nice) or a 150-200mW 520...
Hi Kevin,
Thank you for your answer - interesting.
1) What mW was your laser?
2) Did you happen to notice if the laser head got warmer with the thermal compound - this would imply significantly better heat transfer.
Is there a way to heatsink the driver sitting inside the hollow aixiz cylinder by heatsinking it TO the cylinder? This way, the driver isn't just sitting insulated in mid-air inside the hollow cylinder.
I assume filling a portion of the hollow cylinder (on either side of the driver) with...
Has anyone tried to build a laser using this stainless steel 18650x1 flashlight host?

Who made your heat sink?
Thank you.
Re: FS: 1w 520nm handheld
Just curious, why is the body diameter so much bigger than the other laser next to it? Can it hold a 26650 or are the walls thicker?
thanks
1) Does anyone know if the new Arcane hosts are nickel plated like the older one in this thread?
2) Are the tailcap threads nickel plated on this older model?
Thank you.
Just a few questions:
1) Can I order an Arcane host?
2) I assume the Arcane accepts the standard 12mmx30mm DTR module?
3) Can we order with nickel plate like original Arcane?
4) Can we order a host with keylock in tailcap?
Thank you.
Ehgemus,
Your metal work is like - wow! You have a gift for machining no doubt.
I had a few questions:
1) Do you make these Ti hosts with both a side switch and clicky rear (for extra safety)?
2) Is there a way to put a safety pin somewhere so it won't turn on without it?
3) Are the...
Silverfire,
thank you for your answer. One more question: Can the laser head be removed from the body or disassembled in any way?
I asked SKYlaser if the IR filter could be removed by unscrewing the head. I got 2 answers from what may be 2 different sales reps: Kevin said no and the...
Silverfire,
nice review with great pics! Thank you!
About the loose shutter, can it be untwisted off the laser completely? If so, maybe Teflon tape on the threads will make it tight enough to stop the accidental turning problem.
ATprotector,
Thanks for the great review!
Regarding SKYlasers, I read somewhere the Handheld series (HL) had somewhat flimsy power buttons. The LPF model seems to have nice solid power buttons.
How about the power button on the portable PL model?
Thank you.
Your measured values come out to 1.6 times more and 2.6 times more IR. Thank you for that info.
I also suspect the wikipedia efficiency numbers do not take into account shoddy manufacturing practices so are probably the highest efficiency numbers we would likely see at best.
