    Focus and Perspective

Welcome back! Great to have you here again to share your knowledge. I recently pushed my record for my oldest working laser back a few years. I just got three working SP-155, from 1976-77, with the oldest being Sep 1976. Surprisingly all were working, though they don't light up consistently.

    Help Connecting My Parts

Does the driver not have polarity markings? What diode and driver are you using? For most drivers the inputs should be marked wiht + and -, for output the + out goes to anode and - to cathode. + usually has red wire and - black.

    Am I being safe? 500mw @ 520nm with OD 6

The beam expander may make the laser slightly less hazardous in that it will decrease the irradiance and may increase the size beyond the pupil size (7mm dia). Although I do not know for certain that decreasing the irradiance will necessarily make it safer for the eye. The issue of practical...

    Happy Anniversary

Well, if you insist :). Here is a picture of one I made for the 60th anniversary.

    Happy LASER anniversary everyone!

Been a few years - what wattages are we up to now?

As for power, you've also get the newish diode arrays, I think up to 100+ Watts, but given horrible beam(s) quality, not that useful/usable (also not that affordable either). Are the NUBM4F significantly stronger than the normal NUBM44-V2?

Garage Machine Shop: open for business

Sounds like you've got some useful tools. I'll have to keep you in mind if I have projects I need machining for.

DIY Portable fogger 18650 powered (picture heavy!)

Nice work. I've considered before the idea of jury rigging a vape pen for getting quick smoke without having the warm up of a normal smoke machine. How long does you setup take to warm up enough to get fog?

Post your vintage pointers (weather you still have it or not)

Great topic. My first laser was a cheapo pointer <1 mw 660nm with 2 standard 5mm leds run from coin cell, I'll see if I can find it. Probably got it around 2006 maybe? My first DIY laser pointer was really janky setup using 660nm dvd diode ran to 30mW or so. Setup from two freight flashlights...

Welcome! Have you done any laser related projects before now while lerking?

Please remember to change the desktop background before a presentation

I mean, who hasn't had that problem.... :ROFLMAO: I distinctly remember the self-consciousness when presenting things from my computer in checking I don't have anything incriminating up, file names, programs, tabs etc... I'm sure others have had similar things with even less appropriate...

    Newbie question: IR laser

The first, most important question is do you have the laser beam safely terminated? With the power your dealing with that is very important.

    1st Intro Thread

If you are working in lower temperatures of need a stable power level, then I would stick with direct diode, or maybe high end 532nm. At least for the cheap, common 532nm dpss laser modules have their power output dependent on temperature, so if the temperate is low, the power will drop a lot...

Brand new, noob, *TRYING MY BEST TO BE RESPONSIBLE*

For the practical side, lasers definitely are NOT the best or safest option by a LOT. Probably much easier to light a small piece of something on fire and throw it in. Kinda like a road flare or similar maybe? Or maybe just skip the highly volatile fuel altogether. I think for lighting with a...

DTR's Laser Shop has a new Website

Is the store/website still going to have the same web address or will that change? For quite a long time I've just had the site bookmarked as https://sites.google.com/site/dtrslasershop/. Is that correct and will it stay that way? Thanks for the update!

Buying 650 nm laser for Ramen spectroscopy

What are the basic requirements for the laser? It sounds like you don't need much power. How important is linewidth, beam profile/quality? Without knowing much about this topic myself, it sounds like the main need is a good beam shape and maybe 'clean' spectrum? So I would intuitively think a...

Looking to buy broken/nonworking SP-127 HeNe.

That would work well. I'll PM you about specifics.
