    Woe! 500mW red.....

You probably mean a beam combiner. The beam diameter depends on the focal length of the collimating lens. A LOC with an AR-coated lens will output ~300mW no problem...

    Big Fat Warning for yotang.com

OTOH, people just doing something because others tell them to do it (or not do it) isn't the proper way... advice is just advice, it's not an order. And keeping the choice of buying from yotang away from the customer isn't the proper way either, for the same reason. Just because the others are...

    Big Fat Warning for yotang.com

What? No, I didn't feel you were responding harshly to my comment, not at all. (I did have to look at your posting above some time to see that "recommended him" refers to the customer for whom you got the laser, not me - the first interpretation didn't make sense). And one thing's for certain...

Help with taking pictures of the sky..

    1. Open the shutter to a low f-number. Don't use the lowest one you've got, stay one or two clicks above it (the lowest one will most likely reveal serious lens aberrations). 2. Generally use a focal length in the 50mm area (well, for analog cameras - I guess for digital ones that would be...

    how to focus?

1mrad is a good all-around first approximation. I once measured my LPC red with VirtualVillage AR acrylic lens at <0.5mrad, but you'll lose that just by shaking the laser, due to the loose-fitting lens housing (even more loose than the Aixiz one). Still, you should easily be able to focus it...

    P7 led

The original light was 30W, with an incandescent bulb. Now matrixcs wants to replace it with the 10W P7 quad-emitter LED. The letter/number combo designates the efficiency (in lm/W). P7 is an older one, with ~90lm/W. Q5 is the current standard for high-quality flashlights (~110lm/W). The...

DX now selling 500mW red laser

That's what I gathered. OTOH, 0.5mW now seems to be a bit on the low end..?

    Black Holes???

No, you don't know what you're talking about, and the gap seems to be too wide to bridge. Sorry.

    how to focus?

If the manufacturers have done their job right, yes.

    how to focus?

Good idea. What you see with these glasses will be just the longer-wavelength fluorescence light, not the laser light itself. Nearly everything gives off at least some fluorescence when illuminated with 405nm light.

    Black Holes???

    Where's your problem?

    Reflection off Mirror?

True indeed. Still, as per my last sentence, I feel this would have been an experience that you wouldn't hand off with a simple "... and it reflected into my eye." and no more

    3 char search limit

mysql is an open-source relational database that supports the SQL query language. The 3-char limit is not due to the DB itself, but to the forum SW (and a rather common limit to any text search system). Reducing the limit to 2 would have the main effect of considerably increasing the space...

    DIY Blue Beam Dye Laser

Amazing. Once this was a Nobel prize matter, now it's a hobbyist's occupation...

    how to focus?

Some people report that they can't focus a BR with the knurled focusing ring attached to the Aixiz - the lens can't be screwed in sufficiently. Try removing it. It may also be that the diode hasn't been pressed into the housing fully.

    Making Twelve Volts Three

A voltage divider doesn't work. It's ONLY for dividing voltages. They're not usable if you want to draw current. All you need to do is to apply Ohms law to them to see it.

I'm glad I made that yellow thread...

With diffraction glasses you could determine right away whether it's really yellow or a red-green combo.

8/15 San Mateo (CA) - Pink Floyd Laser Spectacular

In Budapest they've got a planetarium where they are showing laser shows every evening. I saw the Queen version when I was there recently. Quite nice, but not as impressive as I'd have thought (the chairs were fiendishly uncomfortable) - maybe not enough smoke? For me, the show was too heavy on...

    London Greenwich Green Laser

Don't post all this info on LPF. There are people there who'll go into foaming fits if you tell them someone is pointing a 5W green laser into public airspace... in a city to boot
