    Antivirus for Win7

Sorry, I shouldn't have used the phrase "scanning for updates"; that's just what the status window said. I didn't have a problem with scanning for viruses, it was with updating the definition file. I just found where to manually download the file and install it, so I'm good now. I'll just have...

    Antivirus for Win7

I decided to give Avira a try since so many people have good things to say about it, but after installing and setting up I get to the scanning for updates part and it hangs. I've let it go for 10 minutes and it still says Transmitted: 0 kBytes. Anyone have any idea what could be the issue? I...

**CLOSED** FS: 3.5mW 650nm mini modules

Wha... I thought you were going to save me some. Bah humbug. :(

Cool lightsaber build, should cut skin!!!

He's probably just putting the beams parallel and next to each other then shrinking the cluster down with a long focal length lens and short focal length lens. Beam expander in reverse. If he's not getting the beams right up next to each other with knife edge mirrors, then he probably has...

    Getting used to laser brightness?

I was also going to suggest it might be time for fresh batteries.

    Pioneer 12X Blu-Ray-- BDR-205

Personally, I think the two 12x diodes look very different from the 8x diodes in the 2nd plot FrancoRob posted in post #232, "8x/12x Comparison - Efficiency %". I'm certainly no expert, but I find it hard to overlook the significant difference in shape of those curves. Anyone have any thoughts...

    RGB beam combining with prism?

You can use violet instead of blue just fine. You can achieve a perfect white balance, you just have to adjust the amount of each color. See The perfect white balance over at PL for some good info on color mixing.

    RGB beam combining with prism?

You could always use mirrors to fold the path up and get more effective distance from the prism and therefore more separation between the input beams, but with each bounce you'll lose some light.

    650/808nm PBS cube Idea

Well either the cubes in some of the blu-ray sleds are not PBS cubes, or PBS cubes designed for one wavelength still work decently for other wavelengths. One of the cubes in the KES-400 sled can combine red and violet just fine, and seems to work on the principle of polarization. As you rotate...

    Ban Darkarmyofone... Again...

Wow! Nice forensics! I hope you don't mind if I repost your image as an image instead of a link. It seems people are missing it. It's evidence that Darkarmyofone at that marijuana growing forum and Darkarmyofone here at LPF are one and the same. Dark's Lowryder #2, 400watt growshow - Page 3 -...

    RGB beam combining with prism?

It's certainly possible. I bet you could use a diffraction grating, too. I've thought of trying both, myself. I imagine it's a lot easier to do the alignments using dichros with everything at 45 or 90 degrees, and that's the reason it's the method of choice (and using PBS cubes for up to 2...

    Two drivers on one Diode?

I imagine you could take any of the adjustable drivers and add a simple circuit consisting of a resistor and a switch in parallel with the adjusting potentiometer to achieve your desired operation. No need for multiple drivers or diodes.

Differences & Similarities of Red and Blu Diodes

suiraM: Very interesting. I was going to suggest that IgorT test his hypothesis by ramping up the current on an LOC to 640mA, then rapidly switch it off and back again. If the diode survives, thermal stress would indeed seem to be the culprit, and if it dies, then back to the drawing board. But...

Sent PMs not showing up in sent folder

I sent a couple of PMs today but can't find them. The sent folder is empty. Is anyone else experiencing this?

    Pico Projector Inquiry

There are LED ones, but also laser ones in the works. See Laser Pico Projector: Buzz and watch the videos. It definitely uses lasers. I don't think it's available yet, though.

    Is soldering necessary?

I would advise against sanding the tips of your soldering irons. The tip is typically copper with an iron plating, and you don't want to sand through the iron. It acts as a barrier between the copper and the solder, because the solder would slowly dissolve the copper if in direct contact. This...

    "More Beam"

The 808 pumps a Nd:YAG crystal which emits 1064 nm laser light of higher quality than the 808 nm laser light coming out of the diode. This 1064 is then frequency doubled in another crystal to make 532 nm.

Ok this left me scratching my head?

BTW, it may actually be better or at least more accurate to relate color to frequency instead of wavelength, because the frequency doesn't really change. The speed of light changes as it enters different mediums, thereby causing the wavelength to change. If you shine your green laser into a...
