My first 445nm! ( First powerful laser as well, heh )

Nice build. Looks like good work on the heat sink; clean and snug. Does it use a set screw, or is it just a press fit? Oh, and the thing about overkill - it never fails ;) Could we see some pics of the whole thing? I bet it's a long sucker, to use 4x AAs. Congrats on a fine looking laser! Stay...

Using a 405nm laser to treat acne?

Yep, I imagine the quote in my sig is rather dependent on focus, and it doesn't take >500mw once you get it tight, either. I snagged that quote in the earlier days of cheap(er) 445 diodes, when most everyone could suddenly afford a class 4 laser. I wanted to temper the excitement of the moment...

    Good Ebay experience with LASER66

I bought a 405-G2 lens from LASER66 (ebay ID, lasers4u.) Pretty much a textbook transaction. I payed, and had my lens a few scant days later. Everything was packed well, and arrived in perfect condition. No friction, no hassle, no problems. Just good business :)

Using a 405nm laser to treat acne?

My sister tried this for a little while. I set her up with relatively a low power PHR, about 80mw. She suffers from rather bad cystic acne, and she said she did notice an improvement. However, she lost interest after a while and eventually quit :( I've used a 405 to lase small localized...

I need help with my 1.9W 445! Please!

My 445 had precisely the same issue before I went to an AW cell. Drove me about nuts trying to figure it out.

    405nm laser safety?

No great danger, so long as a modicum of common sense is exercised. laserdan makes good points about some of the unique properties of 405. It will be much more powerful than it looks because your eye probably won't pick up on the raw color too well. Once you point it at something fluorescent...

    laser wavelength change?

Just subscribing, here. Very interested to see what this does when it shines through a diffraction grating. In the meantime, I'd suggest you try to document everything you can; battery voltage, temperature of the laser, room temperature, mean run-time between charging until the blue shows up...

Somebody around here knowing chinese culture ?

For to make understand Glorious Chinese Culture, impart to western demagogue from harmful ideals made. Left handed bacon wrap to the dryer for the intuition from the beginning of traditional societies. Formality observation from point of labor to familial oils. Likeness you are knowing now!

    405nm laser safety?

A lot of these Chinese pointers and modules are wildly over-spec, so I wouldn't put too much stock in the 20mw figure. There's a decent chance it's more powerful than that. As for safety, that's probably subject to opinion. There are folks here that might tell you to treat it like a firearm and...

Is there such a thing as a "hobbiest grade" spectrometer?

Perhaps I should have been more clear. When I said I needed to do more research, I mostly meant that I wanted to be damn sure I could calibrate such a device and get it working before I went and dropped $200 of my currently very limited disposable income on it. I once heard from a mod on another...

Is there such a thing as a "hobbiest grade" spectrometer?

Qumefox, if you have a spare moment, would you mind telling us a bit more about your spectrometer and your experiences dealing with Science Surplus? Like what you paid and when (I'd think prices have gone up, like everything else.) What was the company like to deal with? As for the...

Is there such a thing as a "hobbiest grade" spectrometer?

Well, that's a start. Looks like I get to Do Moar Research. . . Thanks! (Don't consider the thread dead at this point. If anyone else has a suggestion, I'd be thrilled to hear about it.)

Is there such a thing as a "hobbiest grade" spectrometer?

Wasn't sure where to put this one. . . I've often thought it would be neat to own a spectrometer to measure laser wavelengths, fluorescence of materials, LEDs, and pretty much anything that makes light. Are there any units available that would be affordable for the average joe? A search turned...

Laser light is literally making us sick!!!

Um, no to the radiation thing. Just no. Maybe try some motion sickness pills. They're available pretty much anywhere. Keep to the recommended dosage. Ask your parents if you're underage. I don't know what might be done about the refresh rate aspect. I know it can be a real problem (as does...

    2W Sirius-1-C

Very, very nice host. It's easy to see that a lot of skill and thought went into it. I look forward to seeing what our members can do with these, as well as what might come next from the craftsman. If I could offer one suggestion, it would be to recess the switch boot so that it can tail-stand...

    200mw green vs 1w blue

A few people here have killed lasers by shining them directly into a mirror. The beam gets bounced back and focused through the lens directly onto the laser die. BOOM! Headshot. . .

What I need to push the diode in the module?

I use a spent .22 Long Rifle casing, but any metal tubing ~5mm in diameter should work.

    Removing Annodization (without sanding)

Oven cleaner contains lye, which should eat aluminum and oxides thereof. Make sure you rinse it really well.
