    Space Discussion Thread

I think it would be stupid and irresponsible to screw around with the core of the planet if we even could. I think it could end in disaster. Alan

    Question about laser reflection

Be very careful of mirrors with a laser, but as long as it doesn't reflect back at you then yes you are safe. Alan

We may need to do that for earth one day. It seems like it would be too large of a project unless our survival depended on it. I can imagine a large number of nuclear powered electromagnets the size of a large building all over the planet including platforms in the oceans. Alan

Why You Should NEVER Buy Cheap Glasses

I have a feeling this is especially common with the blue glasses that are supposed to block the red as a couple of other people have posted something like this in the past. I would also advise against the "Trex" blue glasses, I think they are $20 or less on Amazon although they do block much...

10 Watt Blue 445nm Handheld Laser.

That looks like a single diode laser, I don't think there were two beams combined, so I don't believe it's 10W without seeing it tested on an LPM since there is no 10W blue diode. I would guess it is over 3W but no more than 7W. Alan

    Thor MII EBay Laser

Pman you are absolutely right, we are seeing the decline and fall of a once great civilization, I see it in the news everyday and it shows here in the forum too. Alan

    5mw Green Diode?

Yes it does it is a complete module, just apply power and it will work. Keep in mind it may be disappointing if you haven't had a 405nm yet, 405nm is at the limit of the visible spectrum and isn't very visible, 5mW of 405nm will put a spot of violet fuzz on the wall that you may have to look for...

    5mw Green Diode?

Not the cheapest but ships from Texas, and one of the places members here buy some of their parts from. 532nm Lasers, AixiZ Alan

Welcome to LPF, you indicate you are in the U.S. You should add that to your profile so it shows under your name, this is a very global forum with active members in about 50 countries. Alan

Compound changes infrared laser to white light retaining divergence

I didn't think of that! This could be bad. Alan

Compound changes infrared laser to white light retaining divergence

This looks promising. Maybe they will be able to make a simple lens or filter to use with an IR laser. Alan

    Laser for scaring away seagulls

If it's waterfront property there may be no solution, I once lived at the port of Everett marina for a time in an old run down sailboat I bought for $5000, I owned it for 7 years and lived there full time for 3 years, and believe me the seagulls were the biggest problem. They will often nest on...

    Thor MII EBay Laser

When I see your username I can't stop laughing, I am in a lot of pain and have an irregular heartbeat, it hurts when I laugh. If you have blue batteries with no brand name those are the worst batteries, it's not unusual for them to last only a few minutes. Ultrafire aren't much better, best to...

What music does LPF listen to?

Silent Running (On Dangerous Ground) by Mike & The Mechanics from 1985. The song was banned by the BBC during the first Gulf War due to its address of war, nationalism and religion, as well as a direct reference to weaponry in the line, "There's a gun and ammunition just inside the doorway"...

Here is some blasting! :lasergun: A trillion people?! Ridiculous, you can't put an unlimited number of fish in an aquarium or if you put too many rats in a cage they will kill each other, humans will do the same. No matter how advanced our technology gets I can't see the earth supporting more...

I think that is a valid question but I think any discussion of this has to move to the religion thread. Alan

Laser noob here, please help me pick between two lasers

I myself have not purchased from either one of them but yes they are considered credible. If you are outside the U.S. it doesn't matter, if you are inside the U.S. You are better off buying from Optotronics, it will arive fast. Dragon Lasers are on the FDA import alert list but they still get...

Laser newb, a question about violet lasers

You are talking about 405nm, this is at the limit of the visible spectrum and is barely visible, you're not going to be satisfied with a spot of fuzz on the wall that you have to look for to even see it. You are going to want something over 500mW to have a good visible beam, and at that point it...
