Speedy is right, don't waste your time, it's not gonna happen. A 200 mW red would make a great burner, they can be had for ~$50.

What Hak said, if you live near an airport as I do, it is just a matter of common sense to keep the beam below tree height...one mistake isn't worth 5 or more years in jail. If, however you live in the boonies, I don't think you have a lot to worry about. Personally, I would find 1.5 W of 445...

Sounds like you just got a bad one, I would try to return it and get a replacement. The quicker the better on these sorts of things.

Not selling, but I'm picking up a older but NIB CNI PGL III-A 532 locally for $60 on Sunday, from what I've heard they are ~100 mW, not a bad deal IMO. I was really surprised to get a hit when I typed 'laser pointer' into the search bar.

Sounds like your laser diode "LED'd" or in other words is probably putting out just a few mW at best, strange for a new laser, maybe you just got a very poor diode. Unfortunately the only thing you could do is replace the diode if this is the case. Where did you get it from? You may be able to...

You can't. Period.

Pretty much guaranteed to not be 1 mW, most of the cheap 405 pens I've gotten (advertised as being anywhere from 5-20 mW) have all metered between 50-80 mW. I'd be happy to LPM it for you as long as you pay the shipping both ways (~$10 total)
