The base of the laser has rubber feet on it, so should I take them off and place it on an aluminum slab? I forgot to mention this, but last night when I was running it at full current, the "over current" LED came on, and after about a minute, the laser went back into idle on its own.

It didn't die, but I wasn't referring to the 12x, I was referring to the old 8x. He could take that off to test the new 12x.

I'd say to just take the old 8x off so the 12x can be tested. >300 hours is a ton of hours for a blu-ray pointer.

I've put about 7-8 hours on it. I let it warm up the same every time I fire it up, so I'm confused as to why the light is now starting to come on. Edit: Small update. I tried it again this morning, and noticed something else. The "over current" light starts to dimly light at about half power...

I hadn't powered this laser on for a couple weeks, so I fired it up tonight. BTW, I did end up mounting the squirrel cage fan on the top of the box, and ditched the dryer duct. For the first time ever, I noticed the "over current" light come on starting at around 3/4 power. I've never seen...
