    That is a nice output , but the run time is a bit low. I am using the same diode. My run time is continuous, as my diode outputs 800mW from 520 mA. I am going to try 610 mA at some point though.

    profile is better than M-140, 7875 in my opinion. It is a fun diode.

    with the right lens and focal configuration, the diode at 520mA can cut a pencil in half .

    How quickly we get off the subject at hand. But, the answer to the original question is yes. They are good diodes. They will probably live longer than a bdr at the same recommended output.

    The mm violet diodes from JT will hold up at 520 mA just fine. The output with a G2 lens is between 750mW-800 mW. the best optical profile with the tightest spot is prodused when the G2 lens is positioned so the concave side is facing the diode and the convex side is outward.     Hi THP, did you find a higher mA current that is suitable for long life with this diode? For now , I am happy with 520 mA and the lens which came with it. It burns very well at 1-2 feet, Not as well as a single mode at that distance, but pretty well. At 6 inches though, I would say pretty close.

    It's my opinion that 700ish is a pretty decent output for 405 as it produces a narrower wavelength. In comparison, an ir laser diode of comparible po may burn well up close but loses energy the more distant the object. Also 405 is well absorbed by most pigments whereas ir is not at the same...

    I found that at 1100mA the diode gets very hot after even 30 seconds. The specs on the diode from sharp suggest 400mA max, but at 520mA it only gets warm after 2-3 minutes. That is, heat through the heat sink.
