I think that as long as the climber is facing away from you, and you use a certified <5mW green laser, there should be no issue. I have a hard time believing you wouldn't be able to see a 532nm green laser dot at 120ft even in broad daylight. Diffuse reflections off of non-specular surfaces...
Sigh, as I expected from these folk. No effort made to figure out the phenomenon, only whimsical speculation. Mods please lock this thread before it gets out of hand.
Occam's razor is your best friend. You could believe it is alien nanobots invading your house, or you could believe it is some drywall dust falling off the ceiling due to theremal expansion and contraction (as an example). This is what separates science from superstition.
If six professional optometrists couldn't detect any damage, then your eyes are probably fine and you're likely just suffering the nocebo effect and it's all in your brain.
In my opinion the best beam stop (if you want to put in the time to make it) is a stack of razor blades in some sort of housing. The edges of the blades trap light very efficiently and there is almost zero reflection. It also resists very high powers, probably 10W+.
You appear to be Chinese, so I'll type my response in Chinese.
The size of the host has no bearing on the laser diode used, which is what ultimately determines the output of the laser. Do not buy from Chinese Ebay sellers, buy from a reputable source such as Sanwu.
I just did some measuring with a pair of calipers, and I got a diameter of about 3mm, which leads me to believe the input lens is indeed 2.5mm.
Unpairedelectron01 is me, I wanted to include it in the photos to show that the photos are of the real product and not ripped off from an online source.
I tested just now with my Sanwu 488, 505, and 520nm diode lasers and they it seemed to work fine. Same with my cheap set of red, green, violet laser pens. It also expanded the beam of my helium neon laser and both of my argon lasers without any issue.
Is there a specific reason why it only...
The ones made by jetlasers are Chinese-made, and although I don't doubt their build quality they will obviously be cheaper than Japan or USA made Melles Griot expanders.
Hi all!
I recently came across a listing of second hand beam expanders for a good price on a Chinese ebay-like site. They are used but are in good condition; no scratches on the lenses and only minor cosmetic damage to the anodizing. The seller is offering ten or so for sale, and so I purchased...
Red LEDs will work fine, you could even use a red laser diode. I use red holography plates so I just have a 50mw green laser with the lens unscrewed pointing behind me, works like a charm.
