    Laser beam visibility and power.

How's that for a simple build?

    Laser beam visibility and power.

Ok I have the 1 watt 520nm diode set up in a massive heat sink with a plug in power supply. Twice in different locations I set the laser pointing straight up and walked away until I could not see it any more. Both times I got about a half mile (measured by google maps) though at that point it...

    Laser beam visibility and power.

D: It would be on top of a trailer and only be on when there would be people in camp and awake, moved inside when we went to sleep. Thanks for the warnings I will keep them in mind. The good thing is that the ladder on the trailer is high enough that children who could not understand and obey...

    Laser beam visibility and power.

Yes, we know that and it is not a concern as the places we camp dont have much aircraft but do see a lot of trailer campers with buggies, light up flagpoles, bonfires and other attention draws. I just found out that my uncle bought a diode already so the beacon build is rolling forward.

    Laser beam visibility and power.

I was not expecting this topic to get such good responses, ok here is some more backstory. We (my uncle, his friend, and their families) were packing up from a trip to the desert and I was shining around my 30mw greenie, my uncle asked how long it would run and suggested that we could leave it...

    Laser beam visibility and power.

Ok, a 30mw laser beam perpendicular to line of sight is only visible from about 10 meters away. This is because most of the light is either reflected straight back off of particles or slightly redirected away from the beam. What I want to know is how much power one would need to make a laser...

Rayfoss RF532-30mW-QMT Green 30mw waterproof laser

Yeah, I am just worried that it is a lot of infrared. Not a laser to be shining around carelessly exactly.

Any other interesting hobbies to share?

Well lately I have been intensively researching batteries and flashlights and I am going to get a thrunite archer 2c v2 as my next big light. Since I was 10 years old I enjoyed playing with lightbulbs and electricity. I once made a small air cannon using pvc pipe, a soccer ball valve, a bike...

    Thrift shop score thread.

I was browsing a local thrift shop and found this beauty for $3. It's quite the heatsink, too bad I don't have any powerful diodes to strap onto it. :lasergun: My dad found a $120 solar panel for just $12, I want to find it so I can set up a solar battery charger. :tinfoil: Post your best...

    Childs laser game.

Ah, I think that I saw the words "simultated beam", anyone want to try replacing the stock diode with a 1 watt green?

    Let's talk about divergence (mrad)

Yeah I know that the dot would not be visible, If you really want to do some math you could probably calculate the average number of photons striking the moon every second per m² and then figure out the chance of a single photon reflecting back into your eye in a certain amount of time at...

Beam shots, hot rods, pretty girls, post some eye candy or take some in.

    Let's talk about divergence (mrad)

I don't know how to say all that I want to but I will try, please correct me if I am wrong. I did not understand the measurement mrad before so I think this will be good for people to understand what it means 1 mrad (milliradian) = 0.057296° Assuming the starting diameter is negligible and the...

Rayfoss RF532-30mW-QMT Green 30mw waterproof laser

For sure, I value my eyesight! I hate to be a bother but I forgot to post in the right section, will someone move this thread to the green or reviews subforum? here pointed away from camera: and towards: I have confirmed that it is indeed water resistant. Edit- I have measured the...
