One cell vs 2 in series is pretty much just a driver difference. Two cells in series pushing out 2A at 4V each are going to end up with 2A at 8V. One larger 4A 4V battery is the same power, but if you have a laser that requires 5V, the two in series will need a driver that lowers voltage and...

That is very neat. I totally expected the 50 volts to fry the diodes, but I suppose it does make sense that one wouldn't take it all and perish

I thought that you couldn't wire laser diodes in series. Have you done this before with good results?

Running almost 6 times the rated output? Holy crap dude. What's the voltage and current you're working with and what are you using for a driver?
