I have not been here in a while and sort of lost interest in lasers (for now) so I'm going to sell one of mine to someone that will use it more then me.
For sale:
Wicked Lasers Arctic G1, almost new in box with paperwork. This laser has much less then an hour use for sure and that was when I...
445nm lasers all use the same (or nearly same A130/A140) diode so you will see similar performance no matter if it's commercially made or DIY. The real differences is how hard you drive it and the diode efficiency.
Diy builders and commercial manufacturers only have control over the driver...
What is the ideal replacement battery for the Arctic? I have some protected cells that don't quite fit. I don't trust the battery that came with the Arctic.
My G1 finally arrived today. Ordered on June 24, got a ship notice that it was sent out Sept 11 and received it today (Sept 17). Order number was 54xxx.
Everything was well packed and complete. Nothing was touched by customs. I opened everything and am satisfied with condition, no damage...
A 10% (where did you get that # from?) failure rate of any mass produced item is pretty good actually.
When Microsoft came out with the Xbox360 it had a 54% (note 1) failure rate. That plain sucks but the xbox360 is still one of the most popular gaming consoles in the world.
Note 1: ref -...
The Casio diodes are pull from a Casio A130 or A140 Projector. WL (and DIY) both get the 445nm diodes from the same projectors.

To me output power will vary greatly from diode to diode as making laser pointers is not the intended...
In trying to keep with the thread topic, I have not received my G1 Arctic yet (ordered 06-24-10). I will post when I do.
I will not try to defend WL's quality control but someone please tell me how they are to control the output level of a laser diode they don't manufacture in a mass produced...
Re: Arctic: Spyder III: Review
Daguin,
Any chances you will expand on your review and disassemble the unit completely? I am interested if we can adjust or upgrade the driver and add focus ability to the host. It could be called the SS model (Super Spyder). LOL.
Yes, I used a Fluke multimeter inline and adjusted the driver for it's max (1.2A).
I also used a regulated bench power supply at 1.2 amps direct to the diode and got the same mw reading on my laserbee so the 18650 battery is fine. I just have a very low efficiency diode it seems.
I think I may have the lowest efficiency 445 here. I have a 18650 host, flexdrive v4 set to it's absolute max 1.2A and an A130 diode. I get ~750mw with a acrylic aixiz lens and ~850mw with a 405 glass lens on my laserbee LPM.
Anyone have a lower efficiency diode?
Just to add to that, if you use a 2 ohm resister make sure it's at least 1 watt rated as 2 ohm resister and a LM317 will output 625ma. Be sure the battery input voltage is at least 4.5vdc but no more then 5.5vdc or so.
