As Kenom said, CR123s are about 2.5-3.5mm in diameter more than a AA (17mm for CR123 and 13.5-14.5mm for AA.) Two CR123s would be about 19.5mm longer than a AA anyhow. As for CR2s, they're 15mm in diameter by 27mm long, and AAs are 50.5mm long. So if you could eek out the extra 3.5mm in length...
