    LPM Request (Free diode!)

Very interesting, thanks for testing. I'm surprised at the wavelength. Mine is very visibly more orange than my 650nm pens, which I find curious given the similar wavelength.

    LPM Request (Free diode!)

I was playing around with a second unit in an Aixiz housing today, and noticed something interesting. This diode seems *very* temperature sensitive. I was holding the module in my hand, which also happened to be somewhat close to a small heater in my room. The combination of my hand and the warm...

    LPM Request (Free diode!)

Just gave it a shot with a VN10KM MOSFET with a Vgs(th) of 1.2 V. Unfortunately, performance was almost the same as with a BJT, with the difference being I could use a much larger pull-up resistor on the gate (as no current needs to flow through the gate). Either I got unlucky and my MOSFET's...

    LPM Request (Free diode!)

Hmm. I'd seen the version with a FET, but I don't think it will work for me due to the relatively high threshold voltage of FETs that I've seen. The 2N7000 you suggest, for instance, can have a threshold voltage anywhere from 0.8 to 3V according to the datasheet. Maybe some samples will work...

    LPM Request (Free diode!)

That's a nice coincidence! Cheers. EDIT: @The Lightning Stalker That diode does indeed seem to match. I also have another two diodes on the way, one for use in a pointer and one spare. Are you using yours for anything in particular, or just trying to get better data? I spent today playing...

REQUEST: AixiZ 5mW 405nm Power Output

On a similar note to the OP, I just purchased the larger 5mW Aixiz 405 module, this one here: 405nm 5mW Blue Line Laser Aixiz Exclusive 12x30mm ADJ Lens | eBay Has anyone LPM'd one of these before, to save me having to get someone to do it when it arrives? (Note I'll be removing the line lens...

    LPM Request (Free diode!)

Excellent, that was exactly what I wanted to see. Thanks. Shame your diode died, however. Mine was packed the same way and is running fine in a pointer. No issues with it dying and I've been using it for a few days now. Unfortunately, I have realised that I'm not using mine to its full...

    405nm vs scotopic vision?

Tried the colour test and managed to get a zero! Surprising, given that some tiles still looked out of place to me, but I couldn't get them in any position that looked 'perfect'. I'd be interested to see if it was a fluke or not, but can't be buggered trying again.

ePay 3 pack laser LPM results

Nope, but I wish I'd seen that. I hammered the diode out from the front, destroying it and the lens.

ePay 3 pack laser LPM results

Thanks for the input, but I ended up answering my own question. I was shining my eBay 532nm into the sky today when the output suddenly dimmed. Tried letting it cool down, no improvement. Warmed it up, changed batteries... nothing. Not sure what happened but it was extremely dim. Didn't drop it...

    LPM Request (Free diode!)

Well, yes. I certainly wouldn't call anything over 5mW 'safe'. My point is that 5mW is not some magical number, below which lasers are safe and above which lasers are dangerous. My understaning is that ANSI did a bunch of tests and found an exposure level at which they would expect to see a...

    LPM Request (Free diode!)

From this paper: "This is the ANSI “maximum permissible exposure” (MPE) safety level, set at approximately 1/10th of the laser exposure level expected to produce biologic effects. At a laser exposure level of one times MPE (1x MPE) absolute safety would be expected and retinal exposure to...

ePay 3 pack laser LPM results

Apologies for kicking a dead thread, but it seems like the best place to ask this. I just bought the same green pointer as is sold in these three packs. I'll be strictly using it for outdoor beam viewing, as I can't justify the cost of laser goggles at the moment. I'm not going to take chances...

    LPM Request (Free diode!)

While I would absolutely treat a 20mW beam as being dangerous, it is worth noting that the ANSI MPE values are based on a factor of safety of around 10. So in their studies, it actually must have taken something in the ballpark of 50mW to cause visible, measurable retinal burns from a brief...

    LPM Request (Free diode!)

Alright, both RayJay and TheLightningStalker have kindly offered to test out these diodes for me. Given the very low price, I've opted to take both up on their offers. This should give some insight into consistency between diodes and ensure that at least one person receives a working diode in a...
