I believe that CCDs react to IR. The filters which determine which colour will be represented in a pixel are relatively equally transparent to IR, causing it to appear white.

So, would a greenie be better? Presumably the highest frequency that doesn't charge it, discharges it fastest?

This is really bad. Imagine if some terrorist group started making 12x 405nm or 200 mw greenie builds. They could distribute them to protesters, football hooligans and general malcontents. The entire laser hobby system would be crushed.
