CyanNinja - An 18650 battery should be fine, it will probably take 5 volts or so without any damage, it depends on what type of regulator and heat sinking they are using. I very much doubt it would have 200mW output - it's probably a 30mW module.
Welcome Mate, which state are you in?
If you are careful and don't do anything stupid (like take your pointers out of the house or point them at aircraft) then you will be fine. Don't forget safety, goggles etc. Also don't discount non-handheld lasers which are perfectly legal in all states...
I did mine last week :)
I have moved house since my last post and the Argon is now mounted on a trolley that I wheel out every now and again.
I went through a quadcopter drone stage for a while, and I'm currently doing glasswork in the garage and setting up a high vacuum system to evacuate...
Welcome to the quadcopter fraternity!
I have a DJI F450 with a team black sheep frame, a tricopter, and a few other things! Been playing with these for about 2 years now, I'll post some YouTube links tomorrow.
You'll need a power supply and a blower to cool it. You can often pick up power supplies on Fleabay for $100 or so. To build one would be quite involved, mine weighs about 15kg I think. Although I have one of these lasers, there are many members on the forum who are experts in these and know...
These are designed to laser excite Ruby, YAG and other crystalline laser rods, they are usually a heap of laser diode elements in a row. The focus them using a long half round rod. You would get a badly focused line, not a dot. They are usually water cooled - you would need a very elaborate...
I was reading a patent on flame excited lasers a while ago. From memory you need a very stable high speed burning jet of gas through a special nozzle in a cavity with optics. I think the actual lasing medium was fed in with the fuel mixture (I think it was a fairly exotic gas mix).
This isn't...
Re: FS: Offroad 3W+ GITD kryton build!
Ooooh awesome build. Would it be possible to ship the head separately from the body, or even better, ship the diode separately? (stupid customs).
@NKO29
Yeah, they have some cool stuff. I have seen them sell Argons, Copper vapour lasers, Cadmium lasers, YAG lasers etc. They even had a couple ruby lasers for a while (but horrifically expensive).
And I SO want this!!!
@Blaster
You can make that portable - just add batteries to it. You may...
And in the last 12 months I have had customs open and inspect the following:
* A pack of 100 SMD LED's (they WERE from Amsterdam I guess).
* A 12V to 5V down converter,
* A packet of cables terminated in connectors
* A carton of kretek cigarettes (which cost me $79 in import duty) :yabbmad:
I...
Copper is particularly hard to laser cut apparently, and you would be hard pressed building something in a hobby environment that would work. Here are the commercial processes:
Coherent use DPSS 355nm UV lasers in the watt to tens of watts range: Here is the application note and Here is the...
There is a Melbourne company selling VERY high power greens on eBay - up to tens of watts (if you have $14,000 you can have a 100w green). They will make "Portable" lasers in special circumstances - here is an 840mW green for AU $630.61. Here is the link .
Hi Gabedini and welcome to the forum.
Make sure you get hold of some safety glasses first.
The driver would work, but note that you have to set the current correctly as that driver can supply 500mA and that may be enough to kill the laser diode (depending on what type it is).
The safe current...
