What is the chance of your laser being confiscated by customs?

You should read the fine print, operating temp 20 - 35 degrees! That's practically useless! Also the chace of customs taking it is very high in Canada, especially at the Vancouver customs. They're doing it as a game. They have no legal rights to confiscate it. The government has not declared it dangerous nor illegal to import yet. This is why it's dangerous to arm them as they have requested repeatedly. They already think they're the law.

So what is the chance of the laser being confiscated? and is there any way to prevent it? i want to buy this laser : Power Rock 1W Blue laser torch /Focusable/ waterproof [OL-PRBL1000] - $152.99 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce

I heard you can order it in 2 parts but how do i tell them to do that? and what shipping option is better DHL or EMS? i heard EMS was more reliable but im not sure.

That is all dependent on where you are. I've never had a laser confiscated before (I'm in the US). I suppose it's really how they ship it. If they ship it as "SUPER STRONG LASER THAT BURNS THINGS" it might get taken. But simply "laser pointer, Flashlight ect". Also if they put an actual high value on there they will more than likely charge you for it.

As for carriers I have only ever used EMS. But as far as other companies from what I hear, customs doesn't look through it as thoroughly if it is gov. Mail carrier. Simply for the fact that DHL, FedEx and UPS has there own guidelines they follow vs the Gov USPS guidelines
-hope this helps

And yes, if you ship the tailcap and battery separate then that will force them to go an extra step to try to power it on to find out what it is (Which they more than likely won't).

What are you talking about... I would think that those specs
refer to the the temperature of the Laser when it is working...
Why would that be practically useless...

What I was just thinking. 35 C is like 95-98F Which is about average body temp.

You are entitled to contest and actions by any Canadian
Government agency if you think you have been treated
unfairly by them or your legal rights have been violated by
them.

That's what Ombudsmen are for...

Yeah, if they try to pull this on me, I fully intend to fight it. What they're doing is essentially theft.

I've bought the O-like tactical "1.2" W 445nm torch back in april, asked them to ship it all seperately (which they've done ) - and guess what - the part containing the diode/driver/heatsink/lens got into the hands of german customs just because there was no declared value on the package... I had to lie to them in order to get it, so this was my last chinese-laser purchase.
If I'm ever going to buy another laser off the net I'll definitely try LPF-Members or european sellers.

just my two cents.

When I said practically useless, I meant who uses laser only when the temperature outside is between 20 and 35 degrees? My laser says 10 to 36 degrees.

As for Canada customs, they "stole" two 1w lasers, all from Vancouver customs. This was within 2 month time frame. They have no rights to do that when an item was purchased legally. I think I heard it in the news too. Some "female" customs agent thought the laser is too dangerous to be allowed into Canada. Ever since then, lot of lasers been "lost" in Vancouver customs. The Mississauga customs has not confiscated any laser bought legally so far.
So all you Canadian buyers, good luck. I hope someone will challenge the customs. They can not be allowed to play god.

I dont care what some self-important customs peon Thinks she should let into the country, fact is, your job is to filter out items deemed dangerous or illegal by the Canadian government, and at this time, lasers are not classified as such. Now, get your head out of your ass and the sand out of your ladyparts and do your damn job.

Did they give you a tracking #?

Lazerer.com is free shipping and no option for paid shipping so unfortunately there was no tracking number. But in the event it does get lost having no tracking number makes PayPal refunds a breeze. So it is a catch 22.
