Hey everybody.

I'm a new member here and a total noob (self-admittedly).
My interests are Chemistry/BioChemistry (also my occupation), screwing around with computers, playing with Linux OS's (so far mostly Ubuntu, but had used Debian, Maemo, Android and Red Hat when it was called that), and of course Lasers. I had previously had analytical chemistry position and worked with instruments full of lasers :)

I don't have any experience building lasers yet, and limited experience with electronics (not much soldering done recently :) ) but plan on following a tutorial on i-hacked to build my first blue ray laser. Almost all of the parts (except for the heatsink, Dark_Horse please check your PM :) ) are ordered, and everything else necessary for building, soldering etc was purchased :)

If I'll be able to get pictures taken I'll probably create a thread in DIY section.

Thanks,
Igor

P.S. I have so far POT modded 50mW green laser bought on amazon, but suspect that it was not 50mW originally.

Welcome to LPF!!!

Look around and use the “Search” function, it is very helpful if you’re looking for some specific information. If you don’t find what you want the first time try different “key words”.

A good place to start is here, the “Rules & Stickies” section: http://laserpointerforums.com/f36/

If you’re looking for information on how to build a laser check out the links in my sig.

Enjoy your stay!! You will find this a great community with lot of very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful people here.

Kevlar Thanks!

Yes, I'm currently lurking around and collecting bunch of information ranging from building, parts, parts suppliers to members here that sell hosts and drivers and everything else including safety and types of googles I need to get. My "Lasers" notebook in google notebooks is quickly growing rich with information. I've been a member of other forums and still am so search is of-course my favorite button to push :)

Good idea keeping notes. When I fist started here I did, and still do, the same thing. I keep an open word document on my laptop then just copy/past the info I find helpful and that I will use for reference down the road. :)

Also good to use the search function. It can be a pain sometimes but as I'm sure you have seen, people that ask questions that can be found using the search will not get treated so nicely, and rightful so. 95% of the question one might have have all ready been answered, and it gets old for the members who have been here a while to answer the same question over and over.

When I first found this forum I must have spent 2-3 hours a day, at least, and a few weeks just reading.

Your off to a good start!! I'm sure you will fit right in :D
