Building laser with 5mw keychain red laser module

I have one of those 5mw laser pointers. I took it apart and have its module and I took apart my dvd burner and removed the diode. I have the diode and the module. I have no idea what to do next. The laser pointer has an led light on it too. I took off the led and should i put the diode on the positive and negative where the led was? How can i swap out the old diode with the new diode? Will this module even work?the laser i have looks like this

First thing to do is take a hammer and bash the living crap out of that pointer because you cant do anything with it.

Second thing to do is go to the "Welcome" section and introduce yourself.

Third thing is READ READ READ..then read some more.

Lastly use the "SEARCH" button for the things that you cant understand.

Then feel free to post questions.

Or you can just check out the buy sell trade section , someone is selling some higher powered burning RED lasers right now.

Yeah you could do that, but then you wouldn't learn anything, or make friends. And you would waste that burner diode you harvested. Building a laser is not that hard, you just need to do some reading first.
 
well by the time your done reading and making friends , those will be sold.. but there will be more.
