So, i want to build a laser, I never built one before, and I don't have much knowledge in eletronics, I know a little bit tough, so I saw a video on youtube of a guy building a laser from a dvd reader, and I think that even though I am dumb I can make one, the thing I want to know is how do I know the voltage and amps needed for the laser? I saw the guy used a tension regulator, but how did he knew wich one to use? do they all have the same requirements?

You sound like you're about in my position when I first came here years ago.
While you certainly can go the path you're asking about, I'd highly recommend for a first build buying a diode and driver tuned to power it.
I tried more or less your approach when I joined and didn't work out too well. The project ended up going on hiatus until recently when I bought a new diode and driver w/power set for said diode and was able to finally complete my project.
I can whole heartedly recommend DTR's Laser Shop, can get the diode, driver, and module in a one stop shop and sent lickity split.

yes, that is what i tought, i bought a diode online, it will arrive in 12january, it is ml101j29, but I don't know how I am going to turn it on, the datashet says what is writen in the image.

i have a feeling I just need to feed 300mA at 2.6 volt without burning my house or the diode, if it is that easy, I think I can ask a eletrical store guy of what could meet this requirements, given that the closest thing to a safe power sorce i have is a modified computer power supply, but I am not sure if that is what I need to do. 20721293098_990364712.jpg
I bought this diode from a chinese store that will proabably smuggle it into my country without paying taxes for about 10dolar

The Mitsubishi ML101J29 diodes are around 660 nm and are about the least expensive diodes around. I think I still have about half a dozen in my stock. As long as you heat sink it well you should have no problem driving it at 200 mA up to 300 mA with a constant current driver. The Vf is not that important as it will change with temperature. Good luck with your build.

thank you my friend, i will try to do that, and hopefullly, not die or blind myself, it does not seams too hard to do it, i think i can do a hetsink with some Processor heatsinks and some computer fans.

For that diode running at a current of 300 mA or less you likely won't need a huge heat sink or fan. It just won't get that hot.
