Hello,
This is for a project.

I want to make a cheap laser pointer's beam wider, (you know the ones on eBay that looks like a matte black pen with the silver clip and the silver button). - I attached photo of it.

I think I will use the purple beam.

How can I do this without making the beam look like a torch etc.
I want the beam to be straight like how any photon is.
But I want the beam to be also very thick, just like around 15-20mm etc.

If it requires any modification then let me know either internal or external.

Also I want the beam to be consistent at as far as 30 inches would be fine or less but 30 inches just to stay on the safe side.

Thanks.

You can accomplish this with a beam expander, it will increase the thickness of the beam while lowering divergence, making it consistent for longer. You should look up beam expanders and find one that works for your laser, try Thorlabs. Then make sure it's alligned and focused correctly and you should be good to go

Oh thanks seems realistic.
I found one on aliexpress,
Would this work?

Those are double concave for a 532nm dpss laser, they expand the beam from the crystal, but you said you think you will use the purple beam....so you mean a 405nm, the beam from the direct diode 405nm is already expanding so you don't need a double concave, just a wider lens set further out.

If you use a 405nm direct diode laser all you need to do is replace the lens with a wider lens of longer focal length set further out and focused to infinity, result = wider beam.

If you use a 532nm dpss pointer they already have a double concave mounted after the crystal, you will only need to replace the final output lens with a wider lens of longer focal length set further out and focused to infinity.

Or just buy a fat beam module like this > https://www.ebay.com/itm/133621426324?hash=item1f1c752894:g:GzAAAOSw2slf6tw2

Hmm the fat beam module seems possible. Maybe I will consider that.

Thanks.
