Hello LPF!

This is my first post! After seeing youtubers like styropyro blasting his way through plastics and and even computer cases with homebuilt lasers, I knew I had to jump into this really cool hobby. So I am jumping in head first with a class 4 , 1.4W 465nm laser o_O from jetlasersI I also ordered quality safety glasses from survival laser, and plan on wearing them while using the laser, but I want to ask... is it EVER safe to not have glasses on? IE, outdoors, or while burning indoors with a beam dump? Or is a 1.4W 465nm laser simply too bright to safely look at in any circumstance without risk of eye injury?

Also, how great is the risk of burning down my house with this thing? I just have no frame of reference so any input/advice before it arrives is appreciated. Good news is that I have a fair bit of experience handling dangerous objects (guns, knives) so safety is important to me.

Lots of great info on this forum and I look forward to posting images and a review when the laser arrives (hopefully this week!)

Thanks!

Welcome to LPF, puffphoto!
When you get a chance, please make an intro. post in the welcome section and tell us a little about yourself. :)

A Jetlasers laser is a great choice for your 1st laser; a 1.4W laser is a very powerful laser, so use caution and wear your safety glasses until you are familiar with your new laser.
Eventually you will feel more comfortable, and will be aware of situations where the chances of reflections are minimized, such as outdoors, or at a distance indoors and aimed at non reflective objects.

BTW, I made a thread of this same 1.4W 465nm laser a while back, when J/L first introduced them.

Looking forward to your review! (y)

Thanks for the welcome! I'll be sure to do an intro post before my review! And the photos in your write up give me lots to admire as I wait for the mail call! You did a nice job covering the specs as well.

From what I've seen online 465nm is a beautiful color, but everyone says the photos don't do it justice!

I love collecting stuff so I can see more colors coming down the line depending on how it goes with this PL-E Mini!

Great choice --nice laser.
As mentioned above---Safety is always the first and foremost consideration when using a laser.

Read Class 4 laser safety info here: https://www.lasersafetyfacts.com/4/
See laser hazard chart here: https://www.lasersafetyfacts.com/resources/FAA---visible-laser-hazard-calcs-for-LSF-v02.png
For more complete information on laser safety and other aspects see: https://www.laserpointersafety.com/

Super useful! Pretty much what I was looking for in terms of safety stuff! Thanks!
