Hi guys,

I just purchased a Fixed Focus 462nm Equality Series Blue Laser 1.4W for my husband for Christmas. I have been researching and following some of your threads here to get some info as to what would be a good buy. I realise this is not a toy and have purchased extra safety goggles to accompany. Do you think this is a good quality laser for a 'first' 1W laser?

I just finished building one with an NDB7675 diode driven at 1.8 amps for 1770 mW. It measures close to 465nm now and is brighter than my 2.2 watt MS Envy at 445nm. There is a little rectangular artifact with the G2 lens I am using, but it is barely visible, so I don't mind it at all. I'm sure your husband will be very happy with this 462nm laser. Merry Christmas.

Jet-Laser's is top notch:)
Must be a great Wife to get your husband a "Laser";) No biggie but just curious why the fixed focus? The host looks really nice though..
Looking at the Equality link the battery listing is confusing as it show's 3 differnent sizes..

Wow, thanks everybody for the input! it looks like I'm going to get the best one I can find. How do you guys feel about the Thanos 5000mW? It seems top notch! I think he would LOVE it---

The higher power ones have a worse divergence spec than the lower power multi modes. It puts out more of a line than a rectangular dot. That becomes very apparent at longer distances. You can mitigate this to some extent by adding a beam expander, but then you are talking even more money. You might want to look into this before you buy. ;)

Yeah, I saw that. Thank you. I already ordered it, so I might be stuck with it! Just thought it was cool being all high powered etc and can burn almost instantly. Is this just a top model for the Thor series? I heard Thor wasn't that great so...

Make sure to get some laser safety glasses that attenuate the wavelength of your laser, they allow you to examine your beams spot at short distance and see what it's doing, they also help prevent blindness. :)
