I'm looking for a good quality, doesn't have to be top quality, red laser that ideally puts out 10-50mw. Durable construction (not cheap plastic) with lens cap. It will be used in an outdoor work environment. I'm looking to spend around $15, so some not so cheap used cheepie out of one of your big collections that you aren't attached to, and that fits the bill. I would have gotten an ebay cheepie, but I want confirmed greater than 5-10mw so I can get some easily visible dot brightness in bright daylight.

Thanks

You need to change the title of this thread. I came in wondering where you were going to get a 50 watt laser. Now for a 50 mW red laser, it depends on what wavelength you want. The 638nm lasers are brighter mW for mW, but more expensive than the 650nm ones. You should be able to find what you are looking for from LaserLands or Newgazer, Existotem and the other company whose name I an't remember right now on eBay. I would look at laserlands.net first as they are cheaper than eBay.

I thought about green, even a Sanwu 503? or whatever they are, but I'll be pointing into trees, so red will have great contrast over green leaves. I'm also looking for significantly better brightness than the standard cheap <5mw lasers, while keeping output to a minimum since I'm pointing into trees which is towards the sky. A press and hold type switch would be great too.

What about 5mw Blue? I don't think it would be brighter than red would it? Just so I know if I should completely rule out blue. I shied away from it since it can be hard to look at sometimes.

Green is so much bright than red the contrast won't even matter. Just watch out for planes, although lasers aren't as dangerous to them during the day.

For your price range I would recommend this.

If you are willing to spend a lot more this would be a fantastic choice (the 55mW model) . I have one myself, it is over 100mW and I can see the dot on trees just fine. Although it is overcast today.

The sanwu 304 would be fine too but you would also need a battery and charger. It is pretty much the same as the ebay one. (as far as I know)

I mean hold it to keep it on. I'm picky on looks too, the closer to a smooth clean pen the better. And USA stock is ideal. I'm still checking through the companies Paul mentioned

For your price range I would recommend this, you will also need an 18650 battery and charger which you can find on eBay for cheap. It has constant on and should be bright enough for you.

If you are willing to spend a bit more this would be a good choice.

I updated it. I also have some for sale that would meet what you need and have been tested. (hint hint)
