Hi guys just been here a couple of days looking around. I came here cause of a YouTuber styropyro said you guys were helpful and friendly. I'm still not sure what my goal is here yet, maybe do the whole sharks with frickin laser beams on their heads. Or maybe go the whole Pinky and the Brain route and try to take over the world. NARF!

But seriously guys, I'm just here to learn what I can as long as you're willing to impart knowledge.

On that note, I was wondering if you were familiar with extremelasers.com. Also is there a long duty cycle laser from sanwu? I'm looking for about 15 min on off.

Thanks in advance guys

Welcome to the forum. For a long duty cycle ideally you’ll want a lab style laser with active cooling, but sanwu does advertise their striker series with an unlimited duty cycle.

What power/wavelength are you looking for?

I'm not sure what power or wavelength to go for. After all, that's why I'm here. I saw a couple of posts on here that seem similar to what I saw for inspiration, ie weed killing grass cutting. But those threads didn't go anywhere. I understand it may not be worth the effort for some on here but I really like making mash-ups. For instance, get an old riding lawnmower, put optics underneath the deck, so the beam zig-zags the length of the deck with an OEM/lab laser converted to dc battery power.
Or maybe piggy back on a sprinkler system to run power and placement of turret heads. The biggest problems with the latter that I can think of is grading a perfectly level ground before seed or sod, making a guard all around perimeter to not burn down house bushes or your neighbors house, Abe of course You have to have multiple heads that don't interfere with each other or the sprinklers or hurt animals or hurt the neighbor kid etc.

So basically I'm telling you I thought about this for more than 5 min and tried to read passed posts to not be a total jerk. (Loved the intro vid in stickies btw)

All this being said. For a riding lawnmower deck build what do you think I could use... nm? mw? Can I get away with an OEM 445 nm @ 20000 mw? Maybe 10000 mw? Or should I go Co2 and also go higher in mw?

I know I'm trying to do a Rube Goldberg machinebecause it's not necessary and waterto do it another way.... but not cooler. Besides, everyone wants to pop balloons which is cool, but how cool would it be to mow your lawn with a laser.
