You'd likely need to have it outside already as I'm not sure you could get it out the window on the 15th floor. But, if you could work out the kinks, it would be the best way to photograph and chase them off. Couldn't do it with a cheap small drone as they have a limited range and you would need to be able to run it and record for several minutes at least.

It seems unlikely anyone you know will be trying to break into your car, Ben. Do you park at the outer edges of your parking lot? I generally have always tried to park as close as possible not only for convenience, but for added security. I have a handicapped placard now, so if there is an open spot, I take it.

This parking lot is so full at night that i usually just have to take a free space wherever there is one, no real choice there.

A drone could be an option - i do have a balcony so don't need to fly it out of a window, but it would be a bit expensive ;) It would need to be a very good drone - even if there is hardly any wind at ground level you can bet there will be a fair breeze 50 meters (especially around a highrise) that could whisk that drone in any random direction, including straight back at the building crashing into the neighbors windows.

Maybe a DJI Phantom could take off from the balcony on a day with low winds, but anything really cheap would not stand a chance. Taking off from a balcony this high up is very different from taking off from the ground to 50 meters: it's just the air currents around such buildings that pose the major problem. Once you've cleared it by say 20 meters it would be okay.

Yeah, it stinks that both our countries ban pointers above a small power. That was the main reason I built my own as there is no law against owning them. I also have some fairly powerful lab lasers. I have a 1350 mW 532nm DPSS laser and a 230 mW one. Got several 473nm DPSS lasers as well.

I'm a resident flashlight enthusiast since my country doesnt like lasers too much, i get flashlights!

I would suggest an Emisar D1S:
https://intl-outdoor.com/emisar-d1s-thrower-p-926.html
Emisar D1S Thrower Flashlight - 1x 18650

Beautiful quality single 18650, and throws 700metres easy.

Those look very interesting, especially at that price point!

It seems they do require extremely good batteries though, which is not surprising getting so much power from a single cell... apparently it draws so much current the protection would disconnect on most cells.

Given the price i'm considering to give it a try really - even if it doesn't live up to expectations the batteries will still be good of other stuff. Downside is that they seem to charge $24 for shipping.

That reminds me of a comic I had taped on the wall by my desk in 1980. It showed two knights next to a catapult that had just fired and the cat that it had fired made a "pult" sound when the cat hit the castle wall. Under was the caption, "definition". It was funny to me back then.

I think so - if you were struck my numerous flying cats you would consider yourself 'catapelted' back in the day :D

Paul, your mention of that old comic reminds me of this sketch that I've used in the past, but thought it is appropriate here also. It is the modern version of the old medevil "catapult", it's much more efficient, but it's hard to keep loaded with cats.
