As you can see the exposure was 266 seconds, which was plenty of time for some star trails...Don't forget also the photo was cropped to show the top of the mountain, so we have also zoomed in on the trails.

????????

Of course you can set up your tripod where ever you wish. Yes in a perfect world it would be away from everything, on solid ground, on a very sturdy tripod, in a sheltered area and with no seismic activity lol, but we cant always have the ideal conditions...Obviously here the vibrations have not affected the photo anyway. If they had, the image would be blurred and sharpness would suffer. You seem to forget that if the camera were to have moved the distance you suggest during the photo, to create those trails, then the whole photo would be a blurred mess...

Well with the exposure time that would be a little difficult. Perhaps we should have stopped the earths rotation for a few mins, just for that perfect photo...;) Oh well maybe next time. Sorry:rolleyes:

First i appologize,i dont mean to question sth, but i misunderstand or forget that they r from one pics that took on ur balcon.yea, it is a far distance and all the things matched, the star trail(about 1 degree),the mountain.Second ,u did a great job. and third, thx for sharing and discussing, everything.

Wow looks fake! so gorgeous you live in a gorgeous place to. how much was that blue laser Im interested.

Haha a few people have said that, but I guess I should take it as a compliment! ;)

The laser used in the first four pics (actually only 2 photos) was my Saik: http://laserpointerforums.com/f65/2-5w-saik-copper-module-pic-heavy-74753.html. I think I gave a rough estimate of the price, but to build one you'd be looking at $120 with a 3 element and $165 with a G lens. There would be no guarantee of power though, as diodes are luck of the draw. If you were to buy one, especially with a diode this efficient, it would cost around $250 - $300.

The other lasers used in the second set of pics are linked in my sig if you're interested.

How is it so bright during the day?

Its a night time shot and long exposure, so the camera sensor has time to collect much more light than it would in a normal, short duration, daytime shot. As its collected so much light the picture appears much brighter and can even look almost like a daytime shot. Often you'll notice the absence of shadows in a night time shot as moon light (unless its full moon) is generally quite soft and not hard like sunlight.

Glad everything matched!;) No worries and glad you liked the pics.
