What lights to buy?

Hey everyone,

As of recently I have caught the flashlight bug :) Mainly from my desire to have a decent light for when I go 4 wheel driving and from the resident flashaholics of the forum :)

I have perused the flashlight threads for a while, mainly these ones

http://laserpointerforums.com/f66/review-sky-ray-king-3xxm-l-4x18650-aurabuy-80288.html

http://laserpointerforums.com/f66/best-long-throwing-torch-60-a-81006.html

http://laserpointerforums.com/f66/best-flashlight-under-70-a-81760.html

And as far as what type of flashlight I am looking for such as one for flood or throw I'm not to sure. I guess I would like to have a bit of both possibly in the one light. But I am open to buying more than one if one is much more suited for flood or throw than the other.

Based on peoples past recommendations I have come to two flashlights of consideration. The Skyray King and the Jacob A60. As for which one or both I am wondering if the exceptional throw of the Jacob A60 outshines the Skyray's massive lumens as far as throw is concerned? Is there a point in buying both?

If I end up buying a SKR I have come to a few sources. With all of the talk about the SKR's being genuine or not I am not sure which SKR to buy

https://www.fasttech.com/products/1601/10003058/1234001

SKYRAY KING New-M6 3 Cree XM-L T6 3-Mode 2000lm White Light LED Flashlight Torch Golden (4 x 18650) - Free Shipping

SKY RAY KING Black Color 3xCREE XM-L2 U2 1B/T6 3C 2500-Lumen Flashlight_SKY RAY Flashlights_Electronics Wholesale online

With the price going up as they go across the different type of XML emitters is there any that have the best price to quality/lumen ratio? I was leaning towards the one from FT because it uses the newer XML-U2 as opposed to a T6. If I should go for a SKR which one should I buy?

I guess my budget is around about $70 although this could increase if I see something that piques my interest. Thank you if you have read this far I sincerely appreciate it. I am open to other recommendations and all comments and help is greatly appreciated

EDIT: I have ordered a SRK for output and an ultrafire c20 for EDC. will do a review when they arrive :)

Thanks so much for everyones help :D

I have the sky-ray-king-3x xml -T6 and the one with 4 leds looks exactly the same but more power as one more led ...both are great and highly recommended ..but make sure they are the real deal there is at least one post on this forum showing the differences. The two copies i got my money back on from eBay had troubles with the on /off switch ..not working properly or after a few times not at all .The 4 led one i have is a nite king but i have no issues with it, but the copies of the sky ray a lot of grief. One the on switch only worked after trying about 5 times and then you couldn't turn it off without unscrewing the top .The other was similar but you could turn it off ,but the high power to low power and strobe didn't work on either .When they actually did work only high power mode worked.

I have a copy of a sky ray and it uses the U2 led to my eyes its a warmer( slight slight yellow) ie a cool daylight tint, the T6 is appears to be a whiter tint like daylight to my eyes anyway depends on the one you get in the batch.

Thanks IE

If I buy a SKR is there any point in getting a Jacob A60 as well for throw?

Also this one from fasttech is only slightly more expensive and uses 3x XML-U2 emitters instead of the T6 emitter from CN

https://www.fasttech.com/products/1601/10003058/1234001

Is there any advantage in getting the FT one over the CN one. The big kicker as well is that FT has free shipping to Aus whereas CN does not. Making CN significantly more expensive. What are your thoughts?

Skip the A60. If you decide to spend more and get a dedicated thrower, do that, but the A60 won't be very interesting to you after you try the SRK.

The quality of the one form CN is a bit higher, and personally I find the small loss in power worth the better tint of the T6.

That said, you'll be happy with either. I had 3 from FT, and they were all fine, so if the price difference is over $10-15 stick to FT.

There are also a ton of the 4 led KUNG varians out on ebay you might want to check.

Thanks IE,

What is the difference between the tint of the U2 and the T6? EDIT: saw blasters post so the T6 has a cool white whereas the U2 has a warm white colour, correct?

I might have to check out fleabay as well. Thanks a ton

Other way around, U2 is brighter but cooler, and T6 is less bright but closer to neutral light (sunlight at 5000K)

Technically, the tints (color temp) are not measured by U2/T6 (bins) but by their tint markings, such as 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B, 3C, and so on.

Exact opposite :)

And ryansoh3 is 100% correct, but in laymans terms, T6 = Neutral White = Dimmer, but better color perception, and easier on the eyes.

still confused to my eye the T6 looks whiter even if not brighter. The U2 to me compared to the T6 looks warmer in color even if it may be brighter i hope that makes sense. I'm talking about two torchs i have and how i perceive the color of the light between them . I like the T6 better .

To just about everyone, T6 appears more yellow/natura. U2 appears whiter...

Personally I prefer about 4000-4500, which imo is warm, but not yet yellow.

Trust your eyes, not some manual written by a guy using a censored version of google translate.
