MT-G2 builds

Ive read that they can take up to 10 A, but I have no idea for how long. They also get quite hot at 6 A so if you want to push further youll need a big heat sink and very good thermal contact. Active cooling would be best though. ;) :beer:

I like the MT-G2. However it's quite old (from 2012).
For newer builds, I would recommend the XHP70.2 chip from cree, as maximum output goes from 4000 lumen to 8000 (!) lumens at 10 Amps. Both LED's take about 7 volt at this currents.
 
Haha yeah as I said I was meaning to post for a while :whistle: The first one I built was in 2013! Ill check out the new one and maybe do a build...;) :beer:
 
So nice! I actually fell in love with the MT-G2 after getting my Jetbeam WLS4 a couple years ago, unfortunately those massive emitters are so inefficient which is probably why they didn't come in too many torches. But I love the sheer size of the MTG2 though :D
 
The MT-G2 is a great emitter and with a high CRI of around 90 its almost like daylight. Well it certainly seems like it when Im out riding in the forest and the whole place is lit up. :beer:

I am trying this with an C8 that I have, although I'm going to use the XHP70.2 instead of the MT-G2.

Just to be sure, the voltage for the zener diode is the usual 5.1V, correct?

I'll have to see if my common cheap 18650's will even be able to put out the full current. :eg:
 
IIRC the zener I used was ca. 4.3 V the resistor can be 200 - 220 Ohms.

If you are using an XHP70.2 why dont you look at an FX30, or a Texas Avenger driver? Provided you can get the correct board size it will be a lot easier than soldering on loads of AMC7135 chips! :beer:
 
Sure thing. Just using a smart phone camera for these pictures.

The middle picture is with the new XHP70 and my EDC XM-L2 at 1ft from the wall. Should be roughly 4000lm vs 1000lm.
