Yeah, that's where I saw that and thought about it.

Would be something neat to try, cause you could design a heatsink that is sort of stylized.

I only received the exact number of other parts as I did Pen barrels, including the count on the buttons...

I can ask my supplier if he has a few extra on my next order.

I only sold a couple, so I still have 10 of this first order on hand...

They could go fast though, because there are a couple of people who have expressed interest in several of them.

I'll e-mail my supplier and ask about the extra buttons right now...

P.S. I found out that the 'all chrome' ones are only available with the extra hole above the side button. This means that they are a little longer at the front. Like 1/4" or so. These would be easier to fit an O-like module. But the O-like module would still need to be shortened.

The hole is easily covered with a warning label or sticker.

I got my host today jay. I must say that it is one of the nicest hosts i have ever owned. I'm going to throw one of those new blu-rays diodes in. I HIGHLY recommend this host. Id take pictures but my camera is retarded : ...it wont let me load the pics onto imageshack :-[

Yes they are very nice... Brand new and in parts for a nice clean start. Not like taking apart a Leadlight.

Rob, I got good news about getting an extra button for you. But my supplier is obviously selling the hosts through me.

In other words, I will give you two buttons with the purchase of one of these Pen Hosts! Fair enough?

But normally, extra buttons are not available...

Ok, got my pen host today, and it is very nice! With a AixiZ module it will work absolutely perfectly!

Quick question, I know you can have case positive with Blu-rays, but what about reds?

With reds, since the diode case is negative, you would have to isolate the diode or module for a case positive set up...

This may affect your heatsinking too.

Why not just build them case negative? That's what I do with both red or blu-ray...

Case positive would just be easier since the spring on the board is better suited for the negative butt of the battery, and the end of the battery cap is usually better suited for the positive side. But I can compensate, thanks for the reply! I am starting my build right now, I'm going to put a 635nm in the pen.

Well, took about 2 hours to get prepped and ready (removing previous driver, testing it, modding the pot, soldering on the pins, tinning all the wires/pins, cutting the diode pins to appropriate lengths,  making sure wires were right lengths etc etc) Everything was perfect.. I screw on the module over the driver, it fit like a glove... well, when I went to test the laser, the diode was already dead.   I cannot imagine I did anything to fry it, and I wasted a lot of time installing it.  

Is there some way to test a diode to see if its dead or not before I waste my time soldering it to the driver?  I thought I remember reading about something with a MM...I would assume with resistance to see if its making a thru connection or not.

It can be frustrating, especially with tight builds...

Everybody has their methods, I will share mine if it may help.

I have a host with FlexDrive that is specifically for testing the diode before completing the build. This is needed, in order to see what kind of efficiency your diode has.

First I solder two short leads onto the diode, which has already been pressed into the module. Then I put it into a heatsink.

Then set your current on the test host/driver using a test load. Make the connection and measure power with your diode.

Once you know what power you are getting with the test current, you can make a determination of what current to set your 'build driver' to...

So with this method, you are not only testing your diode to make sure it works, but you are going to know what power your build will have, and be able to make any needed adjustments before completing the build!
