should i buy an iphone??

ok so i stumbled upon a iphone 3g, (not 3gs) its 16g and it has 3.0 firmware on it. the guy is selling it for 220 and its in pretty much new condition. it comes with the box and everything, just not any added accessories. the thing is that im gonna have to unlock it to use it with t-mobile because i dont want to switch to at&t now ive had a bb pearl for the past year or so and i want to know if the iphone is my best option for that money. I did took the liberty to look it up on craigslist and found them rainging from $300-$450 most of the more expensive ones did have an extra case or something like that.

So what would you guys do?? ive never used the iphone so i dont know what to expect.

I don't think you can Jailbreak the Iphone for other networks. They stopped that a long time ago. If you have T-mobile then get a G1 Google phone, it's just like an Iphone only better. It supports multitasking and the apps are not screened. I like the Blackberry as well, that's all I owned until I got my G1.

The iphones can't text or send multimedia messages. They can't take video either. You can not tether them to a laptop as well. Their data plan is iphone specific and expensive.

Some of these things have been fixed with the new 3G-S but you didn't ask about that phone. There are reports of the new ones overheating discoloring the rear of the phone and actually shutting down till they cool off, usually right in the middle of a call.

To me there are much better phones out there.

You guys can hate on the iPhone as much as you like, but I still think it's amazing that a phone with no camera, or any of the features you listed still be the top selling number 1 phone.

The iPhone isn't like other phones, you get it because it's new, looks sexy, has the best touch screen on the market and is the most customizable phone out there.

If you are that worried about the features, it takes 45 minutes to jailbreak your phone and download a video, copy paste and other features you may want. I herd that they have been reduced to 99$ now the new one is out, but I do hear what your saying about the new 3GS, personally I'll stick with the 3G, has everything you need with update/jailbreak and there are minimal issues... I have also herd of over heating problems in the new iPhone.

HTC! I like how no slingplayer, tethering, and the slow data problems are all ignored.

I am a little biased just because I hate touch screen phones. HTC Touch Pro, at least that has a keyboard

well i like the HTC also, but the thing is that im going to be getting the iphone for $220 without a two year contract. i dont think i can get the htc for that price. so my question to you guys is can i get a better phone than the iphone for $220 without a two year contract?

and also, what do you guys mean when u say "customizable"?

Here's what I think about the iphone...

I hate apple, and I hated the iphone for a long time, but I've started to notice that the iphone and ipod touch seems to be the main device developers and hackers focus on. That being said, there are lots of games and apps availible for it. Not to mention, it is pretty fast. I like all the emulation and ports of games.

However, I don't see the iphone as a good "phone," I see it as a good multimedia device,. so, I don't like the iphone, I like the ipod touch.

If the ipod touch/iphone didn't have any 3rd party apps, and if it wasn't the device hackers and developers focused on, I would not like it. In fact, it would probably just go by like any other phone.
All-in-all, if it ONLY had the default apps and nothing else, it wouldn't be worth getting.

-------

I currently own a HTC phone, AT&T Tilt. But HTC has been getting really lazy recently, and using processors with a high mhz, but proves to be as fast as pocket pc phones they made 4-5 years ago. These Qualcomm processors they use SUCK. So right now, there is no HTC phone that can run windows mobile smoothly and at full speed. Pick up any windows mobile phone and you'l see the all the loading and how much you have to wait. You can probably bet the phone is made by HTC. Windows mobile also takes up a lot of CPU power and battery power, draining your battery because it's struggling to run on it's weak processor.

-------

For now I'm switching over to the Symbian 60 OS. It's fast, stable, smooth, can play GBA, SNES, quake 1 2 and 3. (yes, the newer nokia phones will play quake 3 at about 25fps with all detail turned up!)

I'm going to buy the nokia n82 as soon as I can, then I'll get an ipod touch. Both devices I will be modding and hacking to their fullest.
The n82's screen is just a little smaller than the n95 (shown in the video above), but the device is faster, and has a better camera!

O yes I'm always updating my phone's rom to the newest. It does run smoother, but I think the smoother our phones get the more the battery life goes down.. or that's how it seems for me. Makes sense tho, when you buy it strait out of the store it's simple, boring, and laggy.

Well the nokia n82 is dual core!:) One core is 332mhz and one is 220mhz.
