Warske, you lying SOB!

angry.gif
You attack my tutorial with multiple, back-to-back posts, then when I call you on it, you pretend that I just "misunderstood" you, that you were not criticizing it at all -
rolleyes.gif

I was not trying to criticize you...I did not mean to be dismissive or imply that your tutorial won't work. I think you have misunderstood me...

And then you turn right around and do the opposite, criticizing my tutorial behind my back in a different thread, in a post addressed directly to c0ld!

How to Fix Attached Pictures in Old Posts!
http://www.laserpointerforums.com/laser_pointer_forums_3/forum/showthread.php?p=521974

...Not only does this not fix the problem of editing, but it is likely to cause you problems down the road.

No, it would not, for reasons I already outlined in great detail in the more relevant thread! -

http://laserpointerforums.com/laser_pointer_forums_3/forum/showthread.php?t=40188

I responded to all of your concerns in great detail in that thread, I would direct c0ld to review my response to your numerous unfounded criticisms there, and am severely displeased that you would try to take this discussion into a different thread, in order to conveniently ignore what I had already posted in the relevant thread in response to your unfounded attacks.

(I have years of experience as a Software Engineer developing server software for web applications, so I'm not clueless in this area.)

And with regards to your - "I have years of experience" so you should listen to me instead B.S. -

After this thread -

http://laserpointerforums.com/laser_pointer_forums_3/forum/showthread.php?t=40095

I think c0ld already has an idea about my expertise

But just to be clear for you Warske - I have well over a DECADE of professional experience in advanced web development (including online databases), SEO since before Google existed, and software & hardware engineering and product development before that, including being called in as a consultant for the R&D dept.'s of Fortune 500's - so if you want to match your experience/expertise against mine, I am MORE THAN HAPPY to do so!

I would also point out that by repeatedly attacking someone's professional expertise on a public forum, even after being invited to take the conversation into PM, that you are flirting dangerously with needing to retain a different type of professional entirely!

Warske, I am actually more upset & disappointed with you that you acted dishonestly with me, than that you attacked my tutorial behind my back.

But now I see that you did not limit your attack to just one post in this thread either...

And just like you did in that other thread, apparently one attack post was not enough, as you have again posted repeated attacks in this thread, before I have even had a chance to respond to the first one!

BTW, it has been incorrectly said that the new attachments don't display properly and can't be viewed unless you are logged in.

This statement was accurate at the time the tutorial was written. It is also not something specific to LPF, but appears to be feature of vBulletin itself.

For example, here is what happens when you try to view an attachment without being logged-in on another forum running this exact same forum software -

AttachmentIssue1.jpg

Note that this is the exact same thing that LPF had been doing with lurkers.

And when I looked into using a picture album as a possible alternative solution to attachments just two days ago (notice my "Test Album" on 5/8), I noticed that the provided "Picture URL" would also display the photo only if you were logged-in, and would return an blank screen otherwise -

http://laserpointerforums.com/laser_pointer_forums_3/forum/picture.php?albumid=24&pictureid=148

as of today, this still appears to be the case.

If c0ld has made some progress in solving some of the problems we have been having with attachments, and was able to change the program to allow open access to them (although apparently not for album photos yet), then I am certainly happy for that!

But trying to discredit someone by claiming that they had "incorrectly said" something, when the statement was, in fact, correct at the time it was made, is at best, deliberately misleading.

I was not trying to criticize you....I did not mean to be dismissive or imply that your tutorial won't work. I think you have misunderstood me...

But then you post this about part of my tutorial! -

This is simply nonsense.

It is easy to fraudulently attack someone's comment, when you post the response in a different thread!

Here is what I said in my tutorial -

There is also extra server overhead associated with the way the new forum displays attachments (separate program run - attachment.php", extra database access, login check, generating the special HTTP headers to simulate an image, etc.) This approach avoids all of that, reducing the load on c0ld's server! [cool]

Please explain to us all, exactly, how that quote is "simply nonsense"???

seoguy,

I'm glad that I read your unprovoked attacks on lasersbee
http://www.laserpointerforums.com/laser_pointer_forums_3/forum/showpost.php?p=523177&postcount=11
http://www.laserpointerforums.com/laser_pointer_forums_3/forum/showpost.php?p=523256&postcount=19

before you posted the diatribe above. At least I know not to take it personally. Your attack is untrue and unjustified.

I left your picture-fix-up thread quietly (even though your insults and criticisms there were also unjustified) because:

a) It was your thread.
b) I had obviously somehow stepped on some very sore toes.
c) You seemed to be doing good work for the forum. I had told Avery in a post that his dead links would cause a hit to his advertising, but you did a much more convincing job and got his attention. Good.
d) You badly wanted me out of there. Fine. I left. I even apologized for upsetting you.

I did say that I still had concerns and would take them out of your thread. So here they are. This is Avery's thread. It's titled: "do you need help with anything"

I asked Avery for the ability to delete old attachments, and justified it by pointing out some misinformation that can be easily verified. Somehow this makes you feel attacked, to the point that you think I am "flirting dangerously with needing to retain a different type of professional entirely!"

From your tone, I'm not sure if you mean I should hire a lawer or a body guard.

As to your reputation, I don't see that you have any problems there. Before the forum switch, my rep count was 5 times what yours was. Now yours is more than 5 times the second most reputable member on this forum, and mine is -4 "for dishonesty, and repeatedly attacking another member's tutorial." It is strange you feel so threatened by a member with such a low reputation.

I did Google your user name and would recommend it to anyone here who is thinking of dealing with you (you don't have to look very far). That and the content of your posts will tell people what they need to know.

Avery, I stuck it out this far, but I don't need any more of this. I know you want to keep seoguy happy, so after I hit the submit button, I am gone. Good luck everyone.

OUT.

This is not the place.

Anyway, to answer the OP, the rep system is still way screwed up, and I can't figure it out. Also, I'd like the ability to attach files if possible, and multiple files would be awesome, and an auto-resize option would be the best of all.

Besides that, it's great! Love the chatbox!

Hi Avery,

Question please. I only can do a "soft" delete of posts in my User Group I created, and in my profile page. It leaves a message that I deleted it instead of just removing the post. Which makes no sense cause either way its gone. But the soft delete just takes up space. Can you change this?

Thanks,

also was able to recreate it in Firefox 3.0 in Ubuntu 9.04

Looks like a firefox issue. Exploder works fine.

I'd like to get the option to change thread titles as well. It works on the original post but not on the whole thread...

have you seen this c0ld?
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=308728

and http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1738324#post1738324

might work.

thanks,
Kendall

The tag needs to be fixed.

Also, """ needs to be converted back into the proper symbol.

Hey Cold, when viewing thumbnail pics your advertiser images are always on top and blocks the picture.

I second k1kb0t's request - When the pics expand the advertisement logos (I have especially noticed the CNI) appear on top of the picture. This is fixed fairly quickly by scrolling up/down and opening the thumbnail again but can be quite annoying at times.
This is a minor problem but I would appreciate if it was solved whenever you have the time :)
Thanks for an awesome forum!

Best wishes,
Sebastian

Hey Cold, the Banner at the top of the page isn't displaying correctly. It seems google ads is adding a border around the top banner and ad. I see this in both IE 7 and Firefox
3.0.11.

hey yeah i am aware of the border issue, when i am testing stuff out i leave the border b/c it helps me verify things are lining up right

i removed the laserwave banner that was causing blockage, thx for pointing out that problem. in the future this spot will only have jpg banner so it doesn;'t cause interference like the flash does
