Lately I've been seeing a whole lot of members here who've only been here a month and only have 100 or so posts, yet they have 10-15 rep power... I'm not really bitter that they have double my rep despite the fact I had to post for years, posting thousands of pages of useful information and helping people day in day out... I'd just like to know what they've done to deserve those points.

Could you start leaving descriptions in people's rep pages to show why exactly they deserve such respect?

I second this.. In fact I am not quite sure where a lot of my own points came from. I donated twice and tested a bit but hardly enough to earn over 300 points:huh: Or at least I thought rep points were more difficult to get than that.

I have seen some people who have been here about a month with ~100 posts with as much or more rep than really senior, trusted members, and there is no explanation as to why on their profile. It makes me wonder whether some mistake has happened or if they have actually done some great thing for the forum and I have just never seen it. Whatever the reason it's always nice to know why people have good repetition, otherwise I find the system rather redundant.

No bitterness, I am just confused.

i give reputation to users that have helped me test LPFs functionality and donated frequently, etc. when i give the rep i do it manually in user control panel and there isn't a way to enter rep comments for these changes unfortunately, i can only enter a number

if you guys feel something is unfair specifically please let me know and im happy to fix stuff

Oh ok.
Well personally I do not feel anything was "unfair" if they helped out, I was just confused cause suddenly some members had massive rep power and there was no way of knowing why ;)
Thanks for letting us know c0ld.

EDIT:
Haha thanks it seems you have suddenly given us both more points.. I don't really feel I deserve it but thanks anyway (; And you have given me so I have 666 rep

Thanks c0ld! :thanks: ...looks like I have 999 rep now!

I don't think anything is "unfair" either, I'd just like to know why these noobs deserve our respect. If they did something incredibly helpful for the forum, we'd like to know about it. As it stands I look at their posts and it's been a hundred posts of "LOL XD" and "Yah me to" and "LOOL THATS FUNNEH" etc... It looked like an error of some sort.
I just thought if there was some way you could leave a memo on their rep page saying what good things they've done for the forum it might save some confusion..

yeah i will try and do this from now on just to give updates on it

or i mgiht be able to make it so when i give ppl rep regularly it "weights" more, then i don't need to do it the old way w/out comments

in the last month there has been a large amount of new members donating and offering to help w/ forum testing purposes. from now on i will try and put this stuff in profiles

The rep system is dead to me and I don't care to use it. I know we talked about this before but I haven't been very good at explaining the problem... Since you decided to give some members (imo) an random amount of points between 500, 1000, 1500..(?), what's the point of me adding 7 points or whatever to that? None. So I just don't care for it. And on top of that there are huge gaps between members in rep points which just doesn't do justice. It's like if you want high rep (i.e. something meaningful), you have to get those points from the admin and not the members themselves.

thx for feedback

yeah i might be able to tweak it more so rep has more weight in general. could be optimized a bit so that its easier for ppl to get higher rep without me having to give points manually for helping out / quality member/ donating/etc

changed this setting:

Post Count Factor
For every X number of posts, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.

the value was 1000
now it is 250

so basically getting reputation from ppl with over 250 posts will make the green bar go up more
