I think people are reading between the lines, when there are no lines.

Simple question. Is it ok to be rude to somebody you perceive to be less intelligent than you?

Not... Is it ok to be rude to somebody you perceive to be less intelligent than you if they keep asking the same question if you already showed them

Not... Is it ok to be rude to somebody in an Internet forum if they are noobs and you perceive them to be less intelligent than you.

Simple answer, no. Since when have rude and disrespectful ever been considered a good thing.

DING DING *alarm bells start ringing* - GIVE THIS MAN A COOKIE!

IMO...Why be mean to somebody if they havent been mean to you or offended you? If somebody is new and asks a simple question, why write 5 lines of "abuse" if the answer is a 1 line response? LPF wants to be known for having nice people, not angry trolls smashing their keyboards every time a newcomer asks a "dumb" question. Don't forget in somebody else's mind a "dumb question" may not be dumb at all!
EDIT: Morals are another stupid human invention... like R....ion

Which begs the question, do we as a community - the bunch of guys who like to play with lasers - want more people in it, or less?

There are arguments to be made for both positions.

I don't know if it begs that question. I don't care how many people want to be interested in the hobby. I'm more interested in people using lasers responsibly. In fact, I don't think being more or less intelligent makes any difference, as it may not relate to lasers. It's kind of like having people (like my parents), who don't know much about their computers, but are wise enough to not get duped and/or install stuff that might compromise the systems.

As for unwelcome people... that really goes beyond intelligence.

Crap! I invoked Scouts Honor in my previous
apology and forgot the meaning had recently changed . . .

That guy and his degenerate friend who participated in that event need to have that crime tattooed on his face and be blacklisted from all natural parks for the remainder of his life. Oh and get this: he's been suing some girl's parents for an accident for "debilitating injury." He sure doesn't look injured in that video.

Oh and you want to see more more destruction by Boy Scouts?

$100,000 composting pit toilet at Jacob Hamblin arch in Coyote Gulch in Utah:

According to the BLM it was criminally arsoned by Boy Scouts from Phoenix, Arizona (a friend called them up as well and got the same story):

But the silver lining on this dark crater? A troop of Boy Scout from Utah tried to put it out and suppress the fire, and also photographed the crime as evidence -- all while those criminal arsons from Arizona refused to help and absconded.

So I won't say that the bad apples ruin the whole bunch.
