ok, so this is how it works: he said that until he sells all of his GBW's, he cannot get more GGW's. Also, he said GGW's would be substantially more expensive.

Good deal Mr. Sled!

Get the pricing! We will be on to those sleds soon enough!
Thanks!

what is the difference between a GGW and GBW?

Mostly price! Lol...

The GGW-H20L drives cost about $250 dollars (down from over $300)...

In a comparison of the two blu-ray diodes using a Meredith glass lens at about 190mA's I got about a 40mW difference in power.

GGW - 191mA's - 205mW's
GBW - 192mA's - 163mW's

I hope you take it as it is... a compliment!

You have become quite the GB organizer for sleds! I hope you keep up the good work!

180-182ma only gives me about 170mw.

What do you mean "only"? If you're using an AixiZ acrylic lens, that's a lot! The GGW 6x wouldn't give you more.

EDIT: We already have indications of big efficiency variances. Similar to the PHRs. I think the GGW's will turn out to be more consistent once we start testing them.

But the wavelength consistency could be an indication of a better diode.

Also, it would seem to me, they just want to push this sled, to make more money, before switching to the good stuff. The above doesn't make any sense. Just like they told you there is a limited supply, so we would buy more, but in fact, these will just keep flowing, just like the PHRs.

lol ive only ordered around 60 so far... I know this guy well enough to know there is no trickery involved. He hant afford to just buy a bunch of GGW's and then risk not being able to sell them. I will get a quote, but he tells me they are a lot more expensive...

i think i plan on doing a long term test right away at 200ma. i should probably be able to get this diode setup and in its heatsink by tonight and start testing then. i will hook it up to my meter and go to sleep. then check how its doing in the morning. :)

Good. I would like to do at least two currents, but i would like to have at least two long term tests at 200mA, so yours will be a good contribution.

I'll set one to 200mA and the other... Either 180 or 220... Since mine are not here yet, this decision will probably be based on what you get..

Looking forward to your results!

Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! THEY ARE GOING FAST!

What will we call the GBW? A 4x or a 6x?

I think the GGW H20L deserves the title of 6x.

Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! THEY ARE GOING FAST!

The GGW-H20L drive specifications tell us that it is a 6X...

Amk called these new sleds a 6X as well, because his supplier said that they were the same sled as the GGW-H20L.

We now know that they are not the same.... Still awesome though Amk! :D

I believe that the GBW-H10N drive specifications tell us that it is a 4X blu-ray writer...

It would have been nice if the sleds were the exact same, but at this price, we sure can't complain! :)

Hang on.... How do I pay?
EDIT: Found it! No worries, I paid. AMK please consider putting the payment link on the first page.

Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! THEY ARE GOING FAST!

I just did a more careful comparison, and i think this 4x is the best Sharp GH04P21A2GE candidate so far! The Sharp diode is rated for 105mW CW and 210mW pulsed.

The GGW 6x never really matched it, because it has a much lower Vf. The PHR is a much lower power diode, to be rated for 105mW CW and 210mW pulsed. But this one could be it!

I used Rkcstrs P/I/V plot, to compare the Vf to the plot in the Sharp datasheet, and the Vf matches really well.

The power is harder to compare to, because the datasheet shows the raw diode output (no lens), and we don't really know how much is getting lost in various lenses. I had to guesstimate a little, and i multiplied the powers in Rkcstr's plot by 1.28. And surprisingly enough, it matched (and i didn't do it backwards). Of course this is the part, where imagination can play tricks, because the exact losses are unknown, and to make it worse, each graph will only match one diode.

Another thing worth mentioning is the lower wavelength drift as the power increases, compared to the PHR. Drew mentioned the 4x remained violet, while PHRs turn "white" or rather blue-er as the power increases. The Sharp datasheet specifies a 2nm wavelength shift from 10 to 105mW, and would seem to suggest a better wavelength consistency, except for an occasional "wavelength-freak".

If this is the same diode, it reaches 210mW at 190mA on my guesstimated raw-output plot. If so, 180-200mA could be a "safe" current for it, since most diodes can survive being pushed to their pulsed power ratings for a decent amount of time. Of course, that would mean 165mW after AixiZ, but it should survive it for much longer, than a PHR.

The Sharp datasheet specifies the max CW current as 120-150mA, depending on threshold and diode temperature, or rather, whatever is required to make it put out 105mW (it is their own output power, that kills them, so a hot diode can survive a higher current, than a cold one, as the power will be lower).

Not that this last part means much to us. If we used diodes within their ratings, the PHR blu rays would have 40-60mW and the open cans would be <200mW.

But it would be nice to finally have a blu diode with a datasheet.

If this should really be it's datasheet, it would mean, that the GGW 6x is a higher power diode, than 105mW. Could be around 120mW CW/240mW pulsed, and would explain why my GGW 6x is still alive putting out >250mW (raw output).

Of course for now, i am basing all this on the data posted by others. I will definitelly do a more careful comparison when i get mine.

But for now, i'm attaching the datasheet for those of you, who already have the diode, but haven't seen this datasheet yet... I really think this could be it, but maybe i just want a diode with a datasheet too much..  ;D

EDIT: Replaced the renamed .RAR file with a proper .ZIP file. It should work now in both WinRAR and WinZIP without renaming the extension.

Re: 6x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! THEY ARE GOING FAST!

i actually go caught up with halloween last night, i didnt wanna get to into the lasers with trick or treaters knocking at the door all night, but not like it mattered because we didnt get a single person to come to out place lol

im doing it now :)
